That's just unofficial scalpers trying to make a profit on popular phones that don't have enough supply. It happens all the time on popular phones in China. If you want to buy a 5g Huawei mate 40pro, for example you have to pay about 30% more than the retail price from scalpers. I expect something similar for the upcoming Xiaomi 12 as it happened last year with the Xiaomi 11

The funny thing is how Oppo wants us to believe they dont plan to launch the phone outside china, yet they sent out review units to every tech reporter/youtuber out there in the world lol. It is an obvious marketing move.

There are so many examples of western countries paying 5x the price of products because of scalpers or sheep mentality. I mean US Apple fanboys are the most prime and notorious example. I'm pretty sure the US invented scalping too (especially since eBay and other similar sites grew in the US too).

zillion, 17 Dec 2021I knew from the beginning, oppo won't giving a low pri... moreAnother thing I would like to add is a lot of those that managed to get early units are overseas sellers/scalpers. It's an open secret that they have 'inside guy' to get them early stock. These sellers already posting Oppo Fold N for sale at 10 to 20% markup outside of China.

If Oppo can produce those phones fast and that other oems will start making new foldables i doubt scalpers are going to be super happy.

This phone is just so odd because it is not true flagship(with newest snapdragon chipset) or midrange foldable with midrange soc.

Of course there are many people in asia who want powerful chipset for mobile games so maybe it was worth it for Oppo going for last gen flagship instead going for midrange chip and 100-200 dollar cheaper or with latest flagship soc with 200-300 dollar premium.

Many chinese "flagship killers" have latest flagship soc but otherwise mid range specs and are selling like hot cakes because in asia mobile gaming is very popular.

This isn't surprising, new stuff gets scalped like crazy especially when it's new tech. I couldn't justify paying $1800 for a phone EVER

This is why sometimes you see a product on ebay for 2x the price.

I knew from the beginning, oppo won't giving a low price for Find N. And now it proved. It's only a smart marketing just for raise hype and attention. Oppo did giving a cheaper price than it should be at the first sale only by giving a cheaper price than galaxy fold3 for small number and after that small number sold out, oppo raise the price. Oppo, you are very smart this time. You can fooling those chinese but you cannot fooling us.

No sane people would pay so much over retail price for a regular production phone. Only those that think they must have the latest techs to show off would be think it's a good idea. If you ask me, they might even deserved to be scalped for their vanity.

didnt expecting this to happen in china and this is their home brand.
