"Lacks in GPU, 5G, imaging, features

MediaTek Dimensity 9000 got a lot of coverage, and the marketing machine is trying to promote this chipset as a premium. Guess what? Dimensity 9000 is not a premium chipset as it suffers from stitched stock Cortex IP, stock Mali GPU, lack of premium phone design wins, and, most importantly, too optimistic SoC clocks. The clocks, especially the mid-cluster, might get the company in trouble due to the high energy drain.

Let me walk through the MediaTek mindset and how things work. There is a big culture of overpromising and under-delivering that we’ve seen in the past. Let’s quickly brush up your memory with Helio cores that at one point introduced three clusters of SoC that failed to materialize in performance in the real world.

The worst part is a significant inconsistency problem with the designs. The company is known for changing its branding (Helio vs. Dimensity now), roadmap, market segment, and other inconsistencies.

In the past, Mediatek made some significant market gains in the mid and especially low-end market with its 4G solutions. That is where they stayed for most of the 4G decade, especially with design wins in China, but they never ended up being called a Premium chipset manufacturer. "

Anonymous, 18 Dec 2021All good phones will still use SD8G1I know its winter but hot isn't necessarily good ...
I personally used meduatek in Meizu mx4 (most powerful chipset at the time)
      Many Redmi models
I used exynos too , in fact i type this on exynos s21 ultra...
      Previously had kirin p20 pro
And ofc many SD phones, since I changed over 80 phones...
And let me tell you that while chip provides raw performance, software stability ,feel in the hand, features and battery life is what makes phone good...

The Qualcomm-Mediatek rivalry is becoming more and more similar to the Intal-AMD one, and i like it

IpsDisplay, 18 Dec 2021Now the tables have turned Qualcomm is NOW building a overh... moreI have used mediatek powered phone. With Power VR gpu.
For a cheap phone made to rival Moto G1, never had performance issues.

I prefer phone powered by snapdragon because it has offered more over the years for expensive phones.

The best camera setup with dimensity 1200 is the one on Nord 2 with its 50MP 1/1.56

Yeah and will give 2+2 mp cameras

MagicMonkeyBoy, 18 Dec 2021There is only one way to sum up the Dimensity 9000... It... moreHopefully they continue down the road this way, but like you've said, they have just started. This Dimensity 9000 can rival the Apple A15 because of the newer TSMC 4nm node compared to TSMC 5nm of the Apple SoC.
Regardless, I would love to own a phone with this SoC if it helps lower down the price of flagships by using this instead of the SD8Gen1 and can totally perform stable with great software optimizations as any other top-end SoCs.

Rodolf, 18 Dec 2021They got the name wrong.. the one with Dimensity 9000 shoul... moreName is not so important as what the chipset can do.

They got the name wrong.. the one with Dimensity 9000 should be called "Pro" since it's both faster and more efficient with feature packed chipset.

Unless GPUs is all what companies care about! Or maybe because Snapdragon is more expensive?

There is only one way to sum up the Dimensity 9000...

It is dubbed as the, 'A15 killer'.

Remember this... Never in history has Mediatek been able to overtake Apple Silicon... Till now. And Mediatek have only just started...

I'm really hoping to see MediaTek make their kernel codes open-source so that optimizations of programs will be much easier than before, and it might finally be as good as Qualcomm's, if not better.
I'm rooting for this Dimensity 9000 mainly because of TSMC 4nm node compared to Samsung 4nm node of the SD8Gen1.

Holy... MediaTek is really gunning for glory here.....

First it was confined to entry level, then it was mid range now straight to the high end. .

I hope one day the custom rom situation changes in MediaTek side and so is the use of better gpus.

Now the tables have turned Qualcomm is NOW building a overheating reputation from the 888 and now the 8gen 1

Many that said they HATE and would never buy mediatek ever again have secretly bought mediatek phones in their pockets and like them and are too prideful to admit that the chips are great now

The last negative they hang unto with their dear lives is "custom ROMs"

Never in smartphone HISTORY!!! have we ever seen a flagship with a mediatek processor

OPPO the Find X series is their highest class THE most premium smartphone of the entire BBk empire (I'd argue the N series is more experimental) and they chose the dimensity 9000 let that sink in

It's going to be a tough pill to swallow for the Qualcomm boys
