Anonymous, 22 Dec 2021And yet it's Philips. You still don't get it as i... moreIt's the Philips name. Nothing more.

In 2020, Philips realized a total turnover of 19.5 billion euros. In 2020, the company employed more than 80,000 people. Philips spends about 10% of its turnover on R&D per year.

In 2020, the business model was mainly focused on healthcare, divided into the following components:

Diagnosis & Treatment businesses

Connected Care businesses

Personal Health businesses.

Nothing consumer electronics anymore not even combinations

Independent company's produce things with 'Philips' on now and paid 9 years back a lot for it. At that time they were so called 'joint ventures' but thats over now. They design it etc now.

So its just a name.

Lol and 9 out of 10 people here in Holland know it is not Royal Philips anymore when they see a product with 'Philips' on. Quite sad.
Lots of problems too reported with the TP vision 'Philips' televisions too here.
That helped the public remember again it is not real Philips anymore. It's completely out of the old hands . I can take over the name of my neighbur like 'John' or whatever, but that does not make me John.

Anonymous, 21 Dec 2021I haven't read this much stupid in one post for a whil... moreLol they are not in those consumer electronic businesses anymore so they make 0 money from that. Only some name licensing money comes. It was everytime in the newspapers here: Philips completely stopped with those things.

Toothbrushes? Ye sure i told you its mostly medical now!
Some patent money comming in but that is not the discussion point here. Letting things produce by other company's is an option if yr in the business, but hey THEY ARE NOT.
Only with you on some household stuff wich they stopped recently. We were talking tv's and phones, audio etc. and that is a long time ago stopped.

      Dutch Wikipedia:

In the past, the company also developed and manufactured small household appliances such as coffee makers, vacuum cleaners, mixers, irons and toasters (until 2021), lighting systems (until 2016, further as Signify) and consumer electronics such as radios, tape and cassette recorders, stereo equipment, CD players (until 2014) and TV sets (until 2012), but also microchips (until 2006 further as NXP), the record label PolyGram (until 1998), lithographic machines for making wafers for the chips industry (until 1995, further as ASML) computers and white goods, large household appliances such as washing machines, refrigerators, tumble dryers (until 1991, then part of Whirlpool).

Philips invented the music cassette in 1963. The compact disc followed in 1980. This involved collaboration with Sony  to arrive at a standardized format.

      You get it now?

mawlki, 21 Dec 2021Philips is gone with or without things where 'names ar... moreI haven't read this much stupid in one post for a while. Just because they don't own assembly plants doesn't mean designs and research aren't theirs. If you can't find the same or even very suspiciously similar product that's not Philips branded, then they have their own products regardless who manufactures them and what division it is. This phone has the same amount of off the shelf components everyone else uses. And same goes for majority of their products from entertainment to personal care and home appliances for which they are most known. Philips TV's are still one of the best when it comes to image sharpness and motion, the Ambilight feature is only found on their TV's because they own the patent for it, their rotary shavers are still one of the best there is, same for SoniCare toothbrushes, their vacuum cleaners have one of best designs and their joint development of S-Bag and S-Filter standard for them with Electrolux helped them (and consumers who don't have to hunt for 300 stupid variants of dust bags) hugely. I don't care if they slap a name on something another manufacturer makes exclusively for them, it's their unique product with their unique features and that's what makes the Philips products.

Anonymous, 20 Dec 2021Except I literally wrote that into my post, not that anyone... morePhilips is gone with or without things where 'names are slapt on' . Almost Everybody knows philips is not philips anymore here in holland. The receive a little fee for the name and thats it. They, the former philips is just non-existing. there are no designs. Its just 1 lawyer or so and a manager from Philips Medical that looks after some licensing agreements. Philips consumer electronics is dead. Apple is completely the opposite. Maybe read loads of other explanations here ?

Nowadays smartphone and headphone/earbud market is a joke. When you make great smartphone it doesn't mean your headphone is good too and vice versa. Just quit the game and let serious players play it.

Anonymous, 20 Dec 2021That's like saying iPhones are not really Apple's... moreYou are totally wrong it is not even designed or marketed by Philips. It is strictly name licensing. So this is completely different to having a foxconn producing things FOR Apple concocted and marketed BY Apple, . There is nothing of the spirit of the real old Philips in any product carrying the name 'Philips'. NOTHING design wise marketing wise in any way. Strictly name licensing. I am Dutch.

Anonymous, 20 Dec 2021Phillips is a Dutch company The days of Philips as a Dutch quality electronics company are long gone. The philips name is licensed i guess to cheap ass producers in china. Not saying it is crap , but it sure isnt durable like it was in the past. The royal dutch philips is more of a medical equipment designer now i believe. Comming from an older Dutch guy here.

Here, I give you another tip: 'Sang Fei Consumer Philips mobiles'.

Anonymous, 20 Dec 2021That's like saying iPhones are not really Apple's... moreApple designes the phones, the chip and the functionality plus they pick the specs for it.

Foxconn produces a iPhone to that blueprint.

This phone is made by a Chinese company that got a license to use the Philips brand, Philips has nothing to do with anything of this except getting money for their name being used.

Or Philips TV's not being Philips because they are manufactured by TP Vision (which makes TV's exclusively for Philips in Philips factories that Philips itself sold to TP Vision). This especially holds true for most smartphones actually. Out of all, Samsung is probably one of rare companies that manufactures most of the components and also assembles phones themselves. Everyone else just buys off the shelf components and put them together by a contractor or themselves. Is that more of "their" phone then if it's assembled by them using parts from 3rd parties? I think not. So, this is as Philips as it can get. Unless you can find exactly the same phone somewhere and they just slap Philips name on it. Then we can argue about it.
