iQOO 9 series to use Samsung ISOCELL GN5 main sensor

22 December 2021
It's a 50MP 1.0μm sensor.

LG Superfan, 23 Dec 2021Why did they decided to reduce sensor size on GN series? Most likely because they tested sensor size and technology, and the smaller sensor probably still gave similar or better results.

Victor geb, 23 Dec 2021Why they ditched the imx766 sensor it was better than thisGN5 is Samsung's latest sensor that is supposed to succeed GN1, which I believe is already more light-sensitive than IMX766V. It also supports 12-bit HDR output and omnidirectional PDAF, I don't think a regular IMX766 is any "better" than this if you look at the overall capability.

Anonymous, 24 Dec 2021so wait, Samsung is releasing a more advanced sensor for so... moreThey presumably are gonna use it in their Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus.

so wait, Samsung is releasing a more advanced sensor for someone else to use, one that they wont be using themselves? (not yet anyway) you think that is normal?

Lol 😂 noone will buy smaller sensor (GN2 was a lot bigger).

Why did they decided to reduce sensor size on GN series?

TheLastOracle, 23 Dec 2021And you know this even before it's been put inside a c... morehe knows this beacase is a tiny sensor and there are phones with bigger sensors from 2-3 years ago

"Apart from the large pixels, the Samsung imager brings all-direction autofocus and ..."

It doesn't have larger pixels, but the Tetracell merging, should yield better low light results, since it's a 50MP Tetracell Sensor with 1.0μm sized sensor. It does have some technologies to improve focus speed, sensitivity, HDR etc
