Ralse, 01 Jan 2022Fantastic! So phones will finally get cheaper as manufactur... moreWell, I don't think so about that since e-sim isn't cheap to make either. This will make the phone more waterproof when there's no gap for water to enter into your phone. Also, most telco companies only offering their esim plan to postpaid user only so far i know.

But what make it greater was, it will be hard for the thieves or pickpocket to steal your phone when they can't remove the battery or your sim card. As you can trace your phone if you phone gone missing. They can't turn off your phone either since it need your authentication to unlock before the phone able to turn off. This give you more time to traced them back or make a report to the authority

eSims are only relevant if you are buying from a cell data provider, not unlocked phones from the manufacturer which can use both prepaid or postpaid. What this means is that factory unlocked devices will have more value than ever before and cause people to buy directly from Apple instead of from Tmobile, Verizon, AT&T, etc. People want the freedom to use any service they want and some people with international models still require dual-sim function for swapping as they cross borders to conduct business.

Is so hard for you to visit once per 3 years service centre to replace your battery???
Or is difficult for you to go with a old button phone like Nokia 230.

Fantastic! So phones will finally get cheaper as manufacturing costs will decrease and they will have to make less repairs because of faulty sim trays.

Anonymous, 28 Dec 2021So people can't swap sims on the go. Very inconvenient... moreCorrect. No more "swap and go". With eSIM its "scan and go".

There are now over 30 travel eSIM providers who will digitally send you an eSIM before your trip. Easy as.

Whackcar, 30 Dec 2021That doesn't change the fact that Apple makes customiz... moreWe are now 3 years into all (non-Chinese) iPhones, Pixels, and high end Samsungs supporting eSIM. The trend is here to stay.

Give me an example of tech so fully adopted in high end phones that did not make it to low end phones at after some number of years?

MobileMania, 29 Dec 2021LOL, it is cause eSIM tech is blocked in China, Chinese are... moreThat doesn't change the fact that Apple makes customized models for them. My point stands still.

Simply put, eSIM exclusive smartphones are not gonna become a trend anytime soon, at least not until the developing world integrates that standard. OEMs are not gonna lose out on billions worth of business for a lousy trend.

This supposed to be long time ago ..
phones in reality don't need sim card to have signal .. in reality phone ALREADY receiving all signals.. sim card is just key which is then approved by operator and allowed to make calls internet etc.. Without sim we will just subscribe with desired OP and they will activate service by IMEI and obviously monthly payments

Government does not want to give users so much flexibility to choose digital data plans from anywhere in the world.

Anonymous, 29 Dec 2021dont blame apple if ur lovely android did the same Android OEMs & Apple have always copied each other. Apple copies android features, and Android copies Apple's anti-consumer moves.

That said, i doubt most Android OEMs will copy this move, because esim is practically unused in China, India & some other major smartphone markets, hence any company that actually want to sell their products wouldn't copy this move until a few years at least. Even Apple would probably make customized models with a physical SIM slot for these locations.

fanboyssuck, 28 Dec 2021if they do it i gurantee others will follow.Apple only cares about profits. Remember when they introduced dual-sim phones (normal sim + esim) for the first time, at the same time they introduced physical dual-sim phones for China exclusively. They didn't need to do that, but they knew that esim is practically nonexistent in china, so they made customized models just for China.

Same way, if they do remove the sim from future models & switch to esim exclusively, they'll still continue to release physical sim models for china, because it's not about "courage", it's actually about profits. Apple has always been a profit-focused company.

AnonD-909757, 29 Dec 2021It IS a gimmick because water resistance is NOT what you th... moreI understand what you said but sorry, it's not a gimmick. A gimmick it's something that has no use whatsoever but tricks people into thinking it has. IP rating and better quality of construction to achieve that rating is NOT a gimmick because it improves the resistance of a phone if *accidently* is dropped in water.
And people who buy a phone should read the description and the conditions.

In the end, better have it and not need it than need it and not have it. Understand? If you need it, it's there and may save your phone. May. It means it's not guaranteed but it gives you a chance. There's no 100% water resistance or waterproof in phones and will never be. But a gimmick is a worthless thing and water resistance is not a worthless thing.
