all well and good but carriers are still so far behind the curve, e sims have been around for what? 2016 with samsung introducing it in the watch, and then over the next few years it rolled out to every manufacturuer, I keep trying to get e sim on my device, but my network wont give me it because they say it cant be done on existing plans, only on new ones, and yet people who go in for new plans are not given or offered them either, so which is it? surely this is another tiny step for the enviroment, perhaps this will actually push the networks into making it commonplace

Almand, 28 Dec 2021Sounds like a problem of your carrier. From where I am, an... moreyes exactly, both carriers here require going to the store just to get a new code.

i mean if the phone manufacturers are going to this e-sim only route, they should collaborate with the carriers and make the switch easier

Well this aims for huge ban and really big tolls i mean very high fines from cell phone network carriers.
Especialy when user wouldnt be apple to switch to anything which suits him better.

Or apple want to start own network for dialing and calling just like Huawei with apple branded Simcards and their regular super high pricing or calls and texts???
If yes this will end far worse than just a super high fines and bans.
This is act of war and will end just like that.
TZhen this aims to something far worse than huge ban

Vikass17, 28 Dec 2021If it happens, it will be fun seeing sells dropping by more... moreThis is iphones we're talking about, dem sales will never drop. This is the same company that sell $19 dollar cloth and headphones that cost as much as a ps5 and people still buy them

[deleted post]No, people need to stop buying Apple products, and the reason for this is because they are accelerating consumerist tendencies and with them it seems like the more expensive the phone is, the less features it will have.

From where I am, an activated esim can be reactivated and reused with a new code for free without having to physically go there, if you have a user portal with the carrier.

The only concern I see here is that what if the SIM needs to be swapped for some reason ? With an e-SIM that won't be possible perhaps

Maybe just in some developed countries. On developing countries, many still relies on physically sim. Selling esim only phone is definitely not profitable in those countries.

And now, we can all thanks those who were following their anti 3.5mm Jack and SD Card agenda for no valid reasons, thanks to them, a big door have been open for making devices even worse and force sell us useless things and limit us even more for no valid reasons.

Yesterday it was no SD card and no more Jack and you had to buy wireless crap or use the awful dongle.
Today it is SIM card that are gone.
Tomorrow, there will be no more USB port, and you'll have to use Wireless for file transfers, and wireless charging, even though with its 50% efficiency the planet clearly don't need this crap right now.
Who know what will be next, no more main camera other than the Wide, you'll have to buy wireless camera if you want Ultra-Wide, Telephoto or anything else.
Sound impossible? Describe the current shit we are forced into today to someone 5 years ago ad listen to how similar his answer will be.

Anonymous, 28 Dec 2021Basically your phone remains in active communication no mat... moreThe issue with privacy is that you always have something to hide, sometimes, even the most mundane thing can become illegal, or you may want to be a whistleblower because your company do terrible things to its employee, the examples are countless, but there are more people than you think who have "something to hide".
Funny part is, that myself I actually don't have anything to hide, but I know how bad things can turn when our privacy is threatened.

And "nothing to hide" can quickly change when it is a corporation secret, a simple popular example : The formula for the WD40, there have been a LOT of professional secrets leaked this way, the issue is, you can't prove that any 3 letter agency did it, and YOU are the one your company will hold responsible.

Anonymous, 28 Dec 2021So people can't swap sims on the go. Very inconvenient... moreexactly! I dont know what they're thinking.

Also e-sims, once deactivated, cannot be re-used so we'll have to go to carrier and ask them for a new code. Where Im at, everytime you do this they charge about $7 aside from the hassle of going to the store and lining up.

lewein, 28 Dec 2021you can turn off your phone. you can put the phone in airp... moreDo you know that there are fake OFF mode meant to actually spy on user?
                                        https://www.wired.com/2014/06/nsa-bug-iphone/
Why do you think removable batteries are gone? Yes, it ALSO serves for planned obsolescence, but not only.

Have you tested if the phone does indeed cut every emission while in airplane mode? There are reasons why physical kill switches are the preferred option.

If you think this is paranoid, you are just totally oblivious to the world we live in.
