Wait I don't get it, is it only about UK or EU as well? I live as a uni student in another EU country, I don't want to have extra money wasted just to be able to use my data!

Ivo., 31 Dec 2021There is absolutely no reason for the horrible roaming char... moreDo you have no understanding of how or why mobile phone networks charge? Under the European union regulations introduced circa 2016, the Eu and EEA was considered a common trading area. The Eu facilitated the transfer of labour, goods and services freely and scrapped roaming charges under this common agreement. The understanding is that it would level out. A German goes to UK and the UK network absorbs the cost of servicing that customer because when a UK person goes to Germany, the German network foots the bill. Now, when a German or Eu citizen goes to the UK, they are going to get charged for roaming because of your country's stupid and shortsighted decision to leave the EU. Yet, arrogantly, you expect to be able to go to Europe and not get charged? Sorry, not being rude, but how are you not understanding this?

Yet another result of what happens when people don't consider the drawbacks or consequences of their actions, in this case the results of Brexit. Now Brits will have to rely more on WiFi or other wireless services.

Ivo., 31 Dec 2021There is absolutely no reason for the horrible roaming char... moreYou have screwed yourself mate. The EU was the thing that stopped these "globalist" (whatever that means) companies from making ridiculous profits with roaming charges and you still haven't understood. Really hopeless.
This thread is so full of idiots in denial... "I'll use WiFi, it's only two pounds, I will buy another SiM". Come on guys, it's more than 5 years now, you have had enough time to understand what massive mistake you have made.

Before brexit the UK operators were legally obliged not to have roaming charges for traffic in the EU. Now they are free to do what they want. It has ALL to do with brexit.

Back to buying a local payg sim again.
Or google voice etc over WiFi.
I had a realy colourful collection of sim holders from various regions years ago, if I have to go overseas again, I can add more European ones.

Anon, 30 Dec 2021Brexit keeps bringing good newsAnd yet there are well over 20 countries NOT affected by brexit, and roaming charges are over £5 per day to those countries now, this has nothing to do with brexit, its simply an excuse to reintroduce roaming charges under the guise, because they could easily have removed the EU countries and kept roaming for the NON EU.

With the proliferation of WiFi everywhere very few will use their services abroad. Go on WiFi in your hotel, in the street and on trains and buses and talk on WhatsApp.
