Anonymous, 03 Jan 2022why not 690690 what? The Snapdragon?
I mean, there is always to be some middle ground, you can't always put the superior SoC, some phones simply don't need it.
Also, not everyone need 5G, there is a cost saved by skipping it.
The SD690 cost over 300€ (all priced based on GSMArena's phone sheet) :
TCL 20 5G : 300€
OnePlus Nord N10 5G : 320€
HTC Desire 21 Pro 5G : 350€
The Y21T is at 200€
So, obviously, for cost saving.
Which, was my point, it would have been better with a single, decent 12Mp camera and no additional 2Mp camera, it would have had similar photography capabilities and cost less.

Mr.Polska, 02 Jan 2022Not really, its like a Tesla car. The primary reasons to bu... moreWrong, additional camera aren't necessary, and many do like how Tesla cars are.
There are cheaper cars with better built quality, and it isn't that people aren't interested in luxury cars, it is that they cost A LOT.
And unlike smartphones, at least you have options available for cars to buy one you like.
From affordable sport cars (Renault Clio RS line starting at only 24,000€, Megan RS starting at 43,000€ for Ford Mustang starting at 27,000$ for example) to low-end luxury (Mercedes-Benz A-class at 35,000$, BMW 2-Series at 37,000$, Audi Q3 35,000$ and Acura ILX at 29,000$, all of which are considered luxury) and other examples, even including affordable supercar.
THIS is the difference, even while being affordable, you have access to powerful car, cars with great build quality and luxury cars already, some even being all of those while still being affordable, one example against it doesn't mean it is false and there is no need to go to 200,000$+ cars to get that, you'll find crappy expensive cars, you'll find almost everything, that's what diversity does, give you choice.
But you can also find phones that also have high price tag, bad quality, useless camera AND a far from good main camera on the same package, but you rarely find phones that aren't expensive and offer you anything interesting, a powerhorse like the Pocophone F1 that was on the cheap side but with flagship SoC aren't a thing anymore.
Even the most expensive phones doesn't allow you to have choices nowaday.
If you aren't willing to buy the most expensive, you'll most likely have 2Mp useless sensors.
So, again, marketing a "triple camera 50Mp phone" (at least this time they had the decency to not say this, and only say 50Mp) is still a really low move and big anti-consumerism.

I interested how 680 will rock on sustained performance and battery life compared to their predecessors

AnonD-909757, 01 Jan 2022GSMArena & phone makers : "and 50MP camera" ... moreNot really, its like a Tesla car. The primary reasons to buy one are the drivetrain and battery's. The fact that you get huge panel gaps, an atrocious interior and parts that can fly off/open up at any given time is something you accept with the product in it's category/price range. If you want a all-around great experience, you can buy a Maybach or RR. Opting for the latter comes with a hefty upsell though, something not many people are interested in. Same with phones.

Tio, 01 Jan 2022Overpriced phoneBut you get all you need as 3.5mm jack and microSD slot.
The argument we see phones are missing these options on pretty much every phone news comments

GSMArena & phone makers :
"and 50MP camera"
Also them :
"50MP primary, 2MP macro, and 2MP depth units"
It would be like having a car deemed as luxury because the driver seat is a full vegan leather heating seat with massage, while passenger seats are plastic camping chairs.
Yet, that's how it is marketed...

>2 MP, f/2.4, (macro)
>2 MP, f/2.4, (depth)
Keeping fingers crossed that the ship transporting these phones accidently drops the containers with entire stock of this model. 2MP+2MP camera sensors are pathetic in 2022.
