YUKI93, 13 Jan 2022I really find it odd to see Android for TV have far better ... moreit's likely because phones have a lot more components, like displays, haptics, cameras, batteries, touch, etc, meaning they have a LOT more drivers that need to be updated & supported when compared to a stationary TV box

I bought one years ago, but did not understood all the hype, maybe it is better now, but nothing worked properly on the thing, just i touch better then 20usd chinese tv box.
I even tried applet TV 4k, but that thing could not even do youtube in 4k so 4k my ass

However I'd like a refresh,with more RAM, a pcie slot for a nvme, wifi 6.whether thered be a market for it I'm not sure. A £40-50 firestick or even an in built TV app is good enough for the majority

Bought mine in 2017 after going through 2 cheaper android tv boxes that I immediatelly returned. It's been fabulous so far. Quick, stable and nvidia keeps updating it after 6 years in the market. It's worth every penny it costs.
PS: A good 4k tv doesn't cost the same... No even an average one does... For 250 bucks all you get is crap. Minimum of the minimum for a Good non serious gaming tv is a 55" LG A1 OLED, bought one recently. Slightly bellow that price point there are a couple of decent mini leds in the market, but nothing below 600 bucks.

I don't think so. No. "GREAT" TVs are available at around 1k euro/dollars/whatever, so no idea what you're talking about. Budget TVs are pure garbo with bad HDR that doesn't even work properly. Might as well stick with a prehistoric 1080p set.
Also the Shield TV isn't overpriced at all. Read what it can do then come back here and tell me it's overpriced. I'll wait.

LolThat's nonsense, many great LED 4K TVs cost as much, stunning image quality, smart functionality and all the rest that's enough for most people. How come the problem is the "cheap" TV and not the "overpriced" tvbox?.
Any who, the Shield is definitely not for everyone, so no need to act as if it should be.

Price doesn't really matter, if you are searching for the best android tv media player there is. I've tried many android media player, nothing to comapre the speed of this Shield. I have one Nvidia Shield with Kodi installed and a media library server synolgy. I can say only but superb.

I know many people that can't afford that, the pandemic also is making prices go higher a bit everywhere. I don't think is nice to mock someones tv price, as is a choice who wants to expend that on gaming device, clothing or whatever... is just choices.

I bought the Shield over a TV because I don't have and don't want a TV. Instead I have a home cinema system (projector + surround amp) and use the Shield as a media player with or without the projector running. There are cheaper options out there with almost the same functionality, but this is the only one that supports passthrough on all audio formats so that i can feed e.g. DTS-HD MA or Dolby TrueHD directly into my amp. No other android TV based media box does that. So in that regard it's really not that expensive.
