The ps4 pro out class the steam deck in performance

Both are very out dated and nearly obsolete game consoles

the base steam deck will cost you more then you think
I think anyone who buys it would have too upgrade the storage
I don't even know if aaa games will run off a sd card
So a 1tb ssd would be the way too go

But a ps4 or ps4 pro ssd upgraded can also be done instead

Also if you want a laptop even the very worsted gaming laptops with
the rather poor rtx 3050 gaming laptop still are able too both out match and crush the steam deck in performance that is embarrassing too lose too a laptop that low end this badly it was not even a close fight

I read online the steam deck not good because too low storage and is overpriced for what it is
What i read online said was the steam deck should cost 120 pound or less or it is not worth it

Nexus One, 14 Jan 2022PS Vita had the same fate as the Dreamcast. I think the sma... moreI don't think that's quiet correct.
My favourite handheld from Nintendo was the original Gameboy Advance. It's comfortable, pocketable, looks great in those FunTastic colours, and had a lot of great SNES-era games. However, the bad news was that it was the direct competitor to the Sony PSP. It just looked like a toy next to it.

The PSP debuted with a very innovative (think Steve Jobs level) innovative User Interface at the time. Great battery system, screen, excellent controls, and hardware. The biggest problems it had were the micro-DVDs it used for its time (dubbed UMD) instead of a Flash Card storage (like an SD Card), lack of microphone (found in later revisions), the display was pretty dim, a weird Slider Nub instead of a proper Thumbstick, and only one. Despite all of that, it had some stellar games like GTA Vice City Stories, putting it closer to the PS2-era games. And excellent praise all round.

A few years later Nintendo responded with the DS.
Now this was only N64-era games and performance. The initial design had symmetrical screens, with speakers on top, and controls on bottom. It made sense, especially the Lite Model. And it also had a pretty good User Interface. The second screen became a gimmick, as games weren't utilising it. They would have been better off just sticking the touchscreen on a single screen, and giving the device better controls or making the device more powerful, but that didn't happen. Instead Nintendo doubled-down on the gimmick. Threw in a very cheap camera, a very weak 3D effect, a small nub, and various size changes. The worst part is, they started fragmenting the ecosystem when older DS systems couldn't play new games well, or at all. There's a big performance difference from the Original DS, to the first 3DS, to the last 2DSXL handheld. All of this happened at a time where Nintendo was losing the relevance in the market after the GBA and GameCube. The Wii was successful, but it was one of the least played console in history, with many people buying it for the hype and giving up after a couple months of playing with the motion controls. This is why Nintendo threw all their attention at the DS Handheld, which is why it got a lot of first-party titles, marketing, and attention. And they're doing it again with the Nintendo Switch, so that makes me question if Nintendo will ever focus on the Home Console segment? Or will they just concede that market to Sony and MS?

    The PS Vita did flop.
It did a lot of things right, but did a couple things wrong. Such as low availability, high launch price, lack of backwards compatibility on launch, low first-party or exclusives, etc etc. Where Sony stuffed up with the original fat PS3, and lost that generation to the Xbox 360. Well, they were making up for it with the new Slim PS3, and eventually outsold them. And had free Online Access and lots of great exclusives. It's almost like they forgot about the PS Vita. I feel like they launched the PS Vita too late. And perhaps what they should have done was to wait until the PS3 generation ended, and launch two new consoles for the next gen. Let's say both running the same software, and same 64bit ARM cpu, but one with thirsty dGPU, and another that's a mobile iGPU. With the difference being about a x4 difference in performance. That way whilst the "ARM-PS4" could be running at 1080p/60/Medium Settings. Their handheld "PS Pocket" could support the exact same game, but instead running at 540p/30/Low Settings. All of which could have been done back in 2014, and set Sony on a different pathway to Microsoft.

It supports dual boot into any os of your choosing and they are also selling a dock that allows you to connect it to a monitor and are able to us a keyboard and mouse.
Its basically a mid-range PC that can also be used in handheld mode.

Anonymous, 14 Jan 2022It dont support any pc game. Not able to dock as a personal... moreTrue, it doesn't support PC games, it's a completely different system. But why do I need a handheld that supports PC games, keyboard and mouse, if I already have a PC and can play on it?

I don't travel so often or far that I only have to play games from my steam account. And if I "had to" play a PC game away, maybe I would be lucky enough that this item is also available for switch;)

There is no point in comparing both systems, each of them has advantages and disadvantages, from my perspective, if you look only at the handheld function, the Steam Deck is not very attractive.

PSP and PS Vita also didn't have PC games and in my opinion they were more interesting.

Besides, I wonder how the problem with subtitles on the small screen will be solved. Not every game allows you to enlarge the font and I can't imagine playing Crusader Kings 3 on such a tiny display. Probably a matter of habit, but it won't be too convenient.

I think the smartphone revolution had something to do with it as well. The 3DS only sold 76M but isn't considered a failure. PSP sold 81M but is considered one because DS sold 154M. Or that's the "narrative" which is why Vita was destined to fail selling only 16M. Media kept saying PSP was a flop when it wasn't so people didn't buy the Vita.

Anonymous, 14 Jan 2022Basic version is pure crap, no body knows how you can play ... moreIts been reported that games run only 10-15% slower from sd card compared to SSD. Extremely expensive? What exactly can you buy for 400-600$ that has Ryzen with GTX1030-1040 in it , 16gb of DDR5 ram , screen, battery, gamepad and weight of 700grams? all ryzen laptops start at 600$+ and they will , im sure, have worse sound and screen and weigh more, even if you would hate the device you can buy usb-c - HDMI cable , bluetooth mouse and keyboard, connect it to TV/Monitor, install windows, and turn it into "monoblock" that will outperform anything at that price. Dunno man, I preordered it and have high hopes. Right now I have asus zephyrus laptop with rtx2060, great laptop but only power supply for it is at 770grams, laptop is relatively light at 1.9kg, but it outputs tons of heat. Great, great laptop, but each time i play i need to build a place around it, make sure there is flow of fresh air around , space for mouse and so on, with steam deck i hope I could just go outside and play in the shadow or just go to my friend and play some old games over lan, because it is a PC and there are a ton of old and new games. Even comparing with most compact laptop its going to be next level at a super low price point.
