I like Ubuntu, but just to be honest. It will fail, UNLESS it runs the same apps as their desktop counterpart AND it runs the games on Android.
The lacks of games is the biggest obstacle for Ubuntu. With little to no game causes majority of users not to switch to Ubuntu. And with little users on board, hardware manufacturers were likely to ignore their support for this small segment.
I don't think a mobile version of Ubuntu can change anything. 2014? Are you kidding me? Even the Firefox OS is still too late. Android back at its time, had filled the hole where there's still no real competitive mobile OS. Competition are always good for customers, a reasonable and possible competition that is.
And with its app store which is the worse part of Ubuntu experiences I'm facing. The apps in there are outdated, frozen with bugs and all. Please keep in mind that to update the apps, you will need to add PPAs by yourself, and in the worst case scenario if there's no PPA for the app you want, you will have to combine the app yourself.

You want Ubuntu on your phone? Buy a HTC HD2!
Of course, that would be the desktop version - not really optimized for a 4,3" touch screen.

This could truly be a contender considering Ubuntu is a full-fledged OS and if big-name app makers are willing to support the platform.

Why care about that? The OS will be surely advanced enough to manage the running apps on its own.

There is no Android kernel and drivers, Android uses the Linux kernel and drivers. Android is middleware, apis and libraries that sit on top of Linux. That means one should in theory be able to install 'Android' on Ubuntu mobile and be able to run Android apps alongside native Linux apps. Sounds good to me!

I would like to give this one a try. Seems quite promising. I wonder if I can delete my Android OS and install UBUNTU on my Skyrocket and still get all the features so that I don't have to buy a phone in order to try the OS.
