You don't need to enter your real birthday, but most users probably do. AFAIK, there are no restrictions for children. There is parental control, but that's a separate issue.

Most of the players (children) probably weren't even born when Mario & other titles became famous.
Sure the Switch has had some miracle ports for that aging h/w, but the Steam Deck would be way better in terms of catalogue & ofc pricing (don't even get me started on that & the online service)

Anyone who thinks this will outsell the switch OLED let alone the regular switch is living in Lala land. There are genuinely people who think Nintendo is severely panicking because of this even though they don't cater to the same audience

Switch = has some classic games but they are expensive, it is underpowered and you have to pay twice for games you owned on previous gen nintendo consoles or games you already own on PC that have been ported. It's smaller than the steam deck so is more portable.
Steam Deck = Access to loads of current gen games, if you have already bought games on steam, you have them on your deck at no extra cost despite it being a new handheld/console, online multiplayer this is a big one as switch online model is a disgrace, no mic support, no achievements etc. Steam Deck is also way more powerful than the switch. It's a great emulation device able to play all them switch games you said were not available on it.

It's the game that you get through piracy that is completely illegal. That is why one my my utmost requirement for any console emulator is the ability to run the game's original copy through CD/DVD player or writer. If it can't do that, it's instantly out from my list.

While being portable as the Switch, while also still being a computer so i could even run productivity apps on it if i wanted to...
And i don't care if piracy is "illegal" in your country, on mine is no problem.
Edit: Enjoy running your exclusive games at 20fps with 720p resolution!

Just one remark on the steam deck: many reviewers compare it to the Nintendo switch. That comparison is useless because Nintendo franchises like Super Mario or Pokémon are not available for the steam deck. That one is competing with tablets, or maybe gaming laptops. But nothing can replace a Nintendo console with its in-House exclusives. And don’t get started with emulation, nothing will replace the original and intended experience, not to mention that it is illegal.
