HTC Q4 results show poor revenues, plummeting profits

One of the problems with HTC is their documented lack of prowess in the imaging department. They made a half-way effort and a big improvement with the One X, but then tried marketing the phone as a camera powerhouse, which was far from true. It seems to produce many good photos, but on average underperforms compared to the competition. They really need to make a concerted effort and sign on with a 3rd party name for imaging to give them cred in the area (like they did with the Beats audio or like Nokia did with Carl Zeiss).
Also, they need to revise their product release calendar. The One X was released just as anticipation of the SGS3 was reaching its peak, leaving a lot of people holding out for the SGS3. They would do better to release a hold-over around January to compete with the likes of Sony and LG, wait for Samsung's major SGS release and then launch a true competitor to Samsung 1-2 months later. Just my opinion.

hmm.. let me see..
-low battery life
-battery is irreplaceable
-no sd card
-lower performance than competition
-lower camera quality
-not that much cheaper
-no innovations/standouts (such as S-Pen, huge screens, sphere camera, etc..)
-waiting a lot for new phones, so the competition's next generation always comes soon enough to wait.
I really wonder why they failed

HTC needs to improve their products competitiveness. With almost the same price HTC phones lack many compared to Samsung or other competitors. To name a few; less memory, no front facing camera, less capacity battery, fewer sensors etc.
When I'm after a new phone to buy, comparing specs of htc, samsung and sony, for the same price level samsung wins most of the time, sony comes lately to second and htc falls behind the two.
I really like to buy htc coz some of their phones look cool but I never do it because of the reason above (lack of features) and perhaps many think the same. Why I should buy phone for the same price but get less.
I'm afraid if htc continue to have something like this, even newcomer like Lenove will overtake htc position or outsale htc in short future

dealing in the realworld is no kindergarden. HTC suffers not only a faild product policy but also a lag of market power and money to promote themself. that is why samsung came out top in 2012. also samsung got saleschanels which the stabilized also in the west since around 30 years ago. sony even longer. that is so important.
and this year will even be harder as sony is reinventing sony's mobile devision. the last sony product which the public interest was so high was the PS3. the leaks created a hype around the odin and the yuga. from a marketing point of view just brilliant! and they are giving people what they want. bigger screens, faster CPU and GPU, more RAM, SD slot, design and build quality. and HTC?
with samsung, sony and motorola (now in google's hand) fighting for the android market in 2013 there will be even less space for HTC.

The main reason for their downfall:
1) They don't listen to users. Give us sd card, removable battery at affordable price.
2) They wanna be like iphone (unibody, fixed battery etc)......Hello Htc....iphone is well-ahead of league. I'd rather buy iphone than your copy-cat phone.
3) Poor Marketing
4) Last but not the least....give us option to enable/disable sense. Some ppl like it but some doesnot.

Something of a worrying trend, currently, and not just with HTC. I generally avoid phones where you can't carry a spare although this is becoming a headache, now!

Anonymous, 07 Jan 2013Haha sony makes camera for iphone, tied up with samsung in ... morehe z saying coz sony is no longer a big player as of now which it was before... u cannot find companies growth rate in google... sony was a great player in past considering its revenues n net income, though that was still less than todays date coz everything have evolved n inflation now has crossed up to a considerable mark n according to todays terms that increased revenues r nothing compared to other key players viz apple, samsung n lg... which means sony's growth rate is much less compared to others n if u consider past numbers that was much better compared to other companies.. hope now u might have understood in what terms he was talking about that sony's growth rate is very low...

the reason why htc is going down is not because of poor marketing or lack of microsd cards (who really needs more than 16gb of storage?) but because of their pricing strategy. they are just too expensive. when you can buy a sony or a samsung for 10-15% percent less and have more of a phone at the same time, why bother yourself buying an htc?

1- No micr... moreThey have a huge lack in marketing, they aired a advertisement in my country for One X (that I own) this is by far one of the worst mobile ad I have ever seen.
Ad this the lack of SD card slot and the poor battery life of One X and you have one company drowning...

Psvita sells like pancakes, cybershot, tv,speakers, etc and even bid to buy Olympus camera. How could you possibly tell that sony will run out of business when they are growing as a whole. Google everything i post so you can educate yourself.

I have owned an HTC Desire S for the past 1.5 years.
And honestly saying it does not live up to the exceptions.
There are design flaws which causes the phone to shutdown unexpectedly due to poor battery connection.
The paint job on the Aluminum casing is bad and is coming off despite good use.
And not to forget the new bugs introduced with new s/w updates.
I have recently seen many such issues coming up with other HTC handsets as well. THAT JUST SUCKS!!
No wonder they are going down.
HTC Sense is GR8 & even better than Samsung Touch Wiz...but its a pity that they cannot find a good hardware & s/w balance like Samsung does.
