"Software updates can now compete with Apple"
Apple's iPhone 5s has received security updates from as recently as September, 2021. Lets look at the Galaxy S4. It is running Android 5, an OS that was released in 2014. Lets look at IOS 12. That was released in 2018. That is a 4 year difference.
Now lets take a look at Samsung's security updates on the Galaxy S4. Here is models that vary from 2013-2018 (Most model's latest is 2016-2017) in latest security patches. What do you think? It looks a lot less secure than the iPhone 5s is right now.
However, I will be looking forward to changes if Samsung improves. I used to have a Galaxy A51, and that was downgraded to bi-annual patches on a phone that was released only 2 years ago, so hopefully this doesn't happen with phones such as the A52s.
ALSO on my A51, I have gotten a Google Play system update dated Jan-Feb, 2022 (Can't remember if it was Jan or Feb right now), so hopefully these help with security at least. The regular security patch is still November.

mawlki, 15 Feb 2022All your blah blah tech would even be better with a huge br... moreWrong, cropping doesn't reduce the angular resolution. The field of view (without a crop) doesn't matter in this regard, if the lens is of high quality (no chromatic aberrations) and has a very high angular resolution, which is influenced by the effective lens diameter due to diffraction. That's physics!
Also, cropping a large sensor is exactly the same thing as using a small sensor, if the pixels have the same size (this plays a role due to read noise).

Photo's should be processed with what The Lens sees. Cropping always will lessen image quality. Plain Physics.

mawlki, 14 Feb 2022Ultra got 230mm lens. 6 pro has 104mm lens. Apples and oran... more"Ultra got 230mm lens. 6 pro has 104mm lens. Apples and oranges."
That's wrong. 230mm and 103mm are NOT specifications of the lens. These are just specifications for the field or view. The lenses have focal lengths of 27.2mm and 19mm. But regarding the angular resolution, that's not important apart from the noise from distant objects at base Iso. What's really important here is the number of pixels per angle and the effective lens diameter. A 48 megapixel sensor for Google's periscope camera would deliver about as many pixels per angle as the S22 Ultra camera. Also, Google's lens gathers about the same amount of light per time from distant objects because the effective diameter is similar. Even regarding diffraction the results should be nearly identical due to the similar effective diameter.
And no, the sensor size wouldn't change. It would be a 48 megapixel Bayer (not Quad Bayer) sensor with 0.8 micrometer pixels.

Bayer sensors you mean plain rgb? So not the quad type binning stuff? Huh they would be Huge sensors with that pixel count - if they were plain rgb like in the system camera's; so a no go. to big to expensive no way.
Having said that i would applause any plain rgb (non binning) 1/1,3" or so 16 MP sensor with good glass and dual f number like f2.0 and f4.0 main cam.

Anonymous, 14 Feb 2022That's actually a very good price for what's offe... moreReally the little S22 design is very strong. Was even torn between Ultra and the baby S22. Ultra has different but awesome design too.
S22+ seems the weird one here i don't get that one.
I am into system-camera's so the ultra would be just overkill camera wise (let me grab my dslr sooner).
Oh boy check the Graphite version in the Samsung store, and uh try not to buy it lol.
899 is too much imho. But the 20% partner portal codes are gone know. With ICS creditcard you can still pre-order too with 15% discount in the Samsung store. Try to throw in a really busted old smartphone with that and get anyway 100 euro extra discount as long as that smartphone is on their lists.
Still use an LG V30+ with broken camera glass :( wich i do not want to replace yet as i don't have any dlternative smartphones to replace when i fuck up.

Not bad. I'd jump on the offer if I wasn't so happy with my current phone that I don't see the need to upgrade. But curiosity is strong I have to admit it.

Google really needs to use a 30-48 megapixel Bayer sensor for its periscope camera, this could be a much better solution than the "10x" approach of the S22 Ultra. Why? Samsung's S22 Ultra uses a 27.2mm f/4.9 lens, the 6 Pro uses a 19mm f/3.5 lens. So both lenses have nearly the same effective diameter (roughly 5.5mm) ! This means that both lenses have about the same angular resolution regarding diffraction. Furthermore, this also means that both lenses gather about the same amount of light per time from distant objects. Moreover, if Google used a 48 megapixel Bayer sensor, there should be no disadvantage regarding read noise in comparison to the S22 Ultra's 230mm camera because the number of pixels per angle(!) would be nearly identical. Also, the image quality between 103mm and 230mm would be much better.

I'm a big fan of the S22 design. That flat back, uniform bezels, two-tone colorway on Samsung-store-exclusive models, and that edge camera island.

Ordered 256gb graphite s22 in the samsung store,
used discount codes and got it for €725 here in europe incl. galaxy buds pro btw.
Will be posting experience stuff in the s22 specs area, but the 'custom made' graphite color version might take 3 weeks delivery, so maybe the full S22 review is already out then here at gsmarena

I really hate how people can just forgive Samsung for ditching both the 3.5mm headphone jack and the micro sd card slot.
Remember how they reintroduced micro sd after s6 was a flop?
They need such kind lessons...
