Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra undergoes durability and teardown tests

15 February 2022
It scores slightly less than its S22 siblings on the durability side.

I'm guessing the vapor chamber is only found in the S22 Ultra.

Smartphone makers need to think of a better way to pack in a phone's hardware parts than to use a lot of adhesive. Surely there is a more cost effective way that's easier to remove during teardown.

Anonymous, 15 Feb 2022I wonder why they used stainless steel vapor chamber instea... moreI totally understand what you mean, i for one was curious as to why stainless steel?

              i came across this page:
              https://www.boydcorp.com/thermal/two-phase-cooling/vapor-chambers/ultra-thin-vapor-chambers.html

For a vapour chamber to be slim, thin AND strong, stainless steel is the ideal choice.

It is best for optical quality, durability and the ability to adequately protect it with a tempered glass screen protector. But I do love this new S22 Ultra either way. 🙂

Great spec cameras but horrible curved screen so not for me

They should really just get rid of the curved screen once and for all, being that this device is meant for professional usage. It's not because I don't like it, but it's simply impractical in everyday usage. Apart from it makes application of glass screen protectors more difficult, the durability is also compromised to an extent as the sides are partially glass instead of full-on metal sides like the iPhones.
The phone would still look beautiful without those unnecessary curves on the sides, and it makes the phone much more durable as well.

The perfect example of a beautiful execution of this design of the S22 Ultra is the Xperia XZ Premium from 2017. Sans the large front bezels, the phone looks very elegant all-around, and if it was designed to be a modern-type device with full-screen display, I'm sure it would look so much more gorgeous than it already is. Hopefully they could consider this on their next Galaxy flagships.

All those cameras take a lot of space! There is no need to have more than one camera! If the periscope camera has adjustable zoom from 0.5 to 10, it can replace all other cameras. Having just one camera and one great sensor will be much better than the current multicamera nonsense!
