Weekly poll results: the Realme 9 Pro+ may do well with a price cut, the 9 Pro doesn't have many fans

27 February 2022
Both phones cost more than similar - or perhaps even better - phones, older models, whose price has fallen below €300.

The major one is the screen protection, followed by the camera department.. Realme has started using a cheap Chinese glass protection in their $300 and below's products that likely will left scratches at lv 4 while regular Corning GG normally at lv 6. And of course, the bad performance on camera both hardware and software.

Midrange phone nowadays only using cheap grade of Samsung sensor. For example, you can compare the isocell GW1 in Realme XT and Redmi Note 9 Pro.. On the paper they both are the same sensor. But Redmi using the low grade one, and the difference in result is like heaven and earth. Therefore Sony sensor is preferable because they're unlikely to do this kind of trick.

I don't think it needs a massive cut. 20 euros would probably make the pro plus very attractive. It's got ois which is rare at this price and the dimensity 920 is pretty much a flagship chipset. I have the Poco f3 but if I was on a less powerful phone, I'd be tempted even at 350 euros. You have to think that the top end Samsung models even from last year are twice to three times as much.

It's true, even in Indonesia Realme 9 Pro and 9 Pro+ is a bit tad expensive for its price range , and a lot of folks here compared it to Poco lol. I'm personally more attracted to the regular 9 Pro since that chipset efficiency is just too alluring especially when you used it for daily driver and just for work/tiktok/watching videos. But I'm definitely not gonna buy it anytime soon, not at that price.

I'm more than happy with my X7 Max after seeing the overhyped camera of this phone, only thing I wish it had was OIS (and maybe charge 2-3k more for USB 3.1 or microSD and telephoto lens)

"The 9 Pro+ is no cheaper than the Nord 2"

I was about to comment that no way they are the same price, maybe during some sale or regional difference in pricing, but the Nord 2 is obviously more expensive
Not to mention 1+'s ever scummy tactic of "launching/starting at xxx", but then never ever selling that base variant, and instead you have to shell out more for the mid-spec variant, and the other scummy tactic of locking some colours (the green woods with faux leather back, not the special editions like pacman, etc) only for the top variant, forcing you to spend excessively more (Rs. 5000 more to go from 8/128 to 12/256)

Biden has shown he will not relax sanctions on Chinese companies like China had hoped. The self sufficiency policy is a backup plan in case more companies are banned from dealing with China. We can see this in huge capital injection into chipmaking sector, where they improved from 14nm 2 years ago to current 7nm. And now Chinese OEMs are starting too with smaller things like glass protection
