Anonymous, 14 Jan 2013that's the reason I don't want to buy samsung products. Sam... moreim a samsung fanboy :D but i like technology, so im loving every new phone esp this xperia Z whch made me think if ill wait for s4 :D
anyway a month or two months aftr the availability of xperia z myt be the release of s4, so no harm on waiting. samsung is really smart for me. i dont care who is the initiator of any tech means, as long as the manufacturer put his effort of making a phone smarter, why would i care abt who copy who copy if i have the WHOLEPACKAGE PHONE :D at d end we ol dont know the real history of technology so dont be bias of marking someone as "COPYCAT"

Bob, 14 Jan 2013Rather underwhelming - both still and video - especially wi... morethe shots aren't really conclusive considering that the weather wasn't cooperating. it's cloudy so lighting isn't ideal. maybe it would be good to wait for additional samples before judging the camera's quality. also, be sure to watch the video in HD.

I think Sony would do better offering a premium phone, if possible, as sales number are likely to easily dwarf the saving by using more cost effective components.

The iphone 5 costs about $167 to manufacture, I believe the S3 is slightly cheaper.

The Xperia range has sold 40m units in over 4 years. The S3 a lone has sold more than 40m units in 6 months.

The Xperia Z and Galaxy S3 on release are about the same price. If we were to assume the same level of sales performance the Xperia Z (i.e.) 8 times less then even if they cost $0 to manufacture they would still not be able to reach the profits that the S3 will make.

The S3 was arguably the best phone available for 6 months, and significantly better than most of the competition for the first few months.

The Xperia Z appears to be a little bit better than most of the competition, it is enough to improve the sales performance to the level of Samsung?

I see a very good DOF in close up image with less noise. Already added auto superior + mode inside my xps and find out it really work very well for 12mp sensor. Focus seems a bit slow but the result were very great and the image processing are very sharp ( for smarphone entry ) . the backlight scene mode taking a bit longer to focus compare other scene mode but the image were good even the lights directly shines cross the sensor. I love soft focus mode. Very vivid and sharp without overxpose. The sport mode really fast .. after focusing the subject.. the shot after shot just takes less then second ( manual press repeatly ) . Good job sony.

look at the top!., 14 Jan 2013I'm wondering, while Sony make cameras for Samsung Galaxy a... moreGalaxy S3 and Note 2 cameras are not as good as people think, they are great in good conditions where its simply point and shoot, but often they will produce very poor images, sometimes they dont even bother to try to focus. Very inferior auto mode, my old Xperia Pro was actually better in poor conditions, it made an effort, while my Note 2 only does the easy shots. SE and Sony received critics for slow auto focus, but there are good reasons for it, as they are really trying to figure out how to make a good result.

Some days ago i was going to make a photo at night out the car window, flash off, since there was strong lights at the target and it was a bit far for the flash. I have never seen so poor result, it didnt try to focus, just took the photo directly, it gave up before it had begun. Exceptionally poor auto mode. Who on earth have time to stop and block the traffic for God knows how long to configure manual settings for such a simple shot? Very disappointing, and i found people having similar problems with SGS3 and Note 2.

nikon cameras using the same image sensor as sony cameras have slightly better output than sony's.

Nothing to talk about. Sharp, but too aggressive denoise filter. Everything lacks detail, especially trees in the distance.

I'm wondering, while Sony make cameras for Samsung Galaxy and Apple's iphone why they don't fix the same camera quality in there own products?.- I'm not talking about Z but the others when you compare with ss and app.

Anonymous, 14 Jan 2013Yes very true. Each company has great innovation Be us b... moreits ok to be loyal to one brand. Maybe except for HTC i think all the established brands can give a good enough user experience. Xperia T vs Galaxy S3 for example, if S3 fans think Xperia T owners are missing out on anything then they are wrong, the differences are small and the feeling of having the brand of your preference is the best feeling.

Like the above mentioned models, XT vs S3, so the S3 has a faster processor, and the XT has a better display for reading and watching videos, and so on and on, all in all they are very close. XT performs well enough and S3 has a sufficient display. Even Motorola has its small advantages, not much i know, but they are there and it is enough to satisfy a moto fan. And then we have personal preferences, for me the Note 2 size is an advantage, for some its a disadvantage.

i like the Note 2 alot and its the best phone i ever had but i look forward to going back to Sony, my preferred brand.

AnonD-98491, 14 Jan 2013Don't talked nonsense, you don't even touch the Sony Z then... moreIt looks very familiar with Vivaz processing!
Image is good enough, colors and softness is great, sharpeness and exposure could be better, but that depend on many other settings! And the hd video has indeed great appearance!
Better wait and see next impressions, it's too early for certain opinions!

Not sure... morehad you watched it in hd? its continuous autofocus is fast enough. it's trying to focus at the objects continuously as the objects are sometime in near and sometime in far. nothing to blame dude.
and about the HDR mode? it's amazing :')
