I'm not so sure about your friend's claim, the 865 was waay cooler than the 888 and 8gen1. I've owned 4 snapdragon 865 phones, all of them could handle Codm max graphics except for the 5ii, since it didn't have a vapor chamber inside it. I got 2 snap 888 phones, the mi 11 and rog 5, both phones with larger and better cooling solutions than the 865 phones, and they both throttled on codm max settings. The 888 and 8gen 1 draw 20++% more power than the 865, hence the immense heat.


            The announcement had this condescending arrogant tone to it...

            Some red flags... So far

            Most of their talks was essentially targeted to enthusiasts

            Selling the idea of a stock experience, wanting change very reminiscent of early one plus.. but this is about business and economics

            Enthusiasts brands DO NOT scale well for profitability.. my guess is they will eventually turn on enthusiasts for profit and fall to the same trap they are so confidently talking about now just like what OnePlus did...

            The mass audience (where the profit is) don't care about a stock experience.. they have no point of reference to understand or appreciate that they just want a phone that works

            What nothing needs to do is somehow create s strong brand identity

              How long will it take THIS time, before we find out this so called start up, is also owned by BBK, which also owns Oppo, ONE PLUS, RealMe and others??
              Remember when Carl Pei was saying that OnePlus was just a lonely startup, with not much money, so you had to have an invite, used social media and their own website to create a feeding frenzie, just to buy it?

My main complaint with the 5ii I owned is that it cannot handle the games I threw at it without throttling hard. The lack of a cooling solution really hurt its potential. Here's hoping that Sony mobile does well enough to branch out - properly cooled, they have a fair chance at making a dent in the gaming phone market.

                    Is there a "Pro-G(ame)? Nobody knows.
                    Is there a counterpart to Z Flip/Z Fold? No plans for 2022/23.

                      Problem is all that cooling make phone fat.

                      Brands avoid as much as possible. Look at S22, as thin as Z3.
                      Would be much better if it was like 8mm.

I want to actually wait to see if the rumor of an Xperia Play comeback comes to fold later this year. With proper cooling, that would temper the 8 Gen 1 (let's not also forget that they're rumored to get the plus variant by TSMC)

Shame it's not without it... moreI'd wait for Sony's offering for whenever qualcomm decides to create a power efficient flagship SoC again. The 888 and 8 gen 1 were a mess, and Sony's designs are not well equipped for heat( I owned a 5ii, and that could barely handle the 865). Only Sony is making the laundry list you provided, so you're gonna be stuck with them until you decide to budge on one or more features.

                                  After seeing who's behind this, we can know what to expect:

                                  1) No headphone jack (their first product was a TWS earbuds, from all things)
                                  2) No micro sd card (cant let the CCP/NSA out of sniffing any data at hand on your device)
                                  3) It will be overhyped by dumb youtubers just bc of that software update policy.
                                  4) Spare parts for repairs will be hard to find.

                                  So, dont hold your breath out for this one and go buy something else from established brands instead
