Why don't they cut the price of the Flip 4 series (or heck sell a "Lite" model) with a 7 series chipset (like the 786 5G) and sell it as a mid range phone, I don't understand.
This could easily make the Flip series a mainstream phone - they already don't include dex despite having flagship specs in the current models.

looks like battery life and heating cannot be solved in near future. till then, they better stick with a high-end midranger chipset to solve them both. just need to make sure these have 3+ years of software support unlike other midrangers on the market.

I bought my og fold for 1000 euros when z fold 2 launched and i think for truly mainstream folding phones the prices need to drop.

With a cheaper solution the costs would actually be spread across a much wider number of sold units.

For a phone with such a small battery, something like Snapdragon 778G or 765G is more than good enough. Heck, I don't even mind having Snapdragon 695 or 690.

The hand gesture in the photo makes me think it could be like LG Wing.

Good that they choose snapdragon instead their own soc which is somewhat worse.

With rollabels no need for extra screen or cameras(resulting cheaper device), less thickness so it would be better than folding but the fact is that the flexible screens are at least now prone to scratches but in future when we get stronger flexible screens the rollabels are the way to go.

Super hyped about rollable phones but i am not sure would i buy first gen product, thought i have og galaxy fold which is still good as new but that has its flexible screen safely in the fold when carrying in the pocket.

They won't launch a lower spec version of fold or flip because the technology is relatively new, and they will try to milk the phones for as much money as possible. Also, if they make it cheaper...it will cannibalise the sales of other samsung phones.

So it may be unlikely that they will release a lower class specced version but we'll just have to wait and see if they'll announce a Lite or FE version in the future.

blue, 24 Mar 2022Samsung should finally make a flip or foldable with some lo... moreI always thought the Flip (with its smaller battery) would be better off with a 7 series processor (maybe even Dimensity 8100). That way, the price can drop, performance is enough for most of those users (social media and web browsing honestly), and the battery life would be better.

I can understand the limited quantity part since Samsung doesn't have any experience with rollable screen, unlike LG who even made a full-fledge OLED TV with rollable screen.

Samsung should finally make a flip or foldable with some lower class specification (SD 7XX or so), to give the foldable phones a better chance.

I won't be surprised these will run on SD 8 Gen 1+, I mean it's the most likely scenario.

Anonymous, 24 Mar 2022It's going to melt the plastic display hahaIt could actually be possible that the Z Fold4 could be powered by the SD 8G1+ since Samsung's foldables usually come out in the second half of the year, and the chipset is rumored to release in the second half of the year.

The SD 8G1+ will be made by TSMC, so hopefully it'll have less heat issues than the standard 8G1 which was made by Samsung.

Not disproving Ice, though, they're known to be often accurate.
