      Google is doing this because Samsung's implementation of this same function is extremely poor. In order to detect SmartTags from a stalker or whomever, you have to manually install the Samsung Smartthings app and look for the option in the app settings to look for nearby SmartTags.

      Apple devices, since the introduction of the Apple Airtags, have had the ability to detect any nearby AirTags because Apple knew creeps would use these gps trackers for the wrong reasons.

      So Google, to make up for Samsung's inadequacy and to protect Android users, must implement this. Hopefully soon Android will also get a function to detect nearby Apple AirTags and Tiles.

        I use these trackers to put in my car etc to be able to track it if someone robs it...

        Can a thief use this technology to simply find the tracker and chuck it away.

          What Google should do is, if someone detect a tracker that's planted on the victim, the victim can trace back to the stalker with police then later on reset and claim the tracker as their own. Free Tracker!!!

            another spyware tracker from Google. what a lame, "privacy does matter" from Google's quote. but they actually tracking your live.
