It's not about India China per se. Oppo, Vivo aren't investigated to such extents.
Something was always shady about this guy. Xiaomi in India felt more like a front op than a true Indian branch. That is not the case with oppo, Vivo or even infinix and tecno in India.

This is a geopolitical issue and the government for both countries are responsible. Primary reason is border tensions. China has this habit of acquiring land which do not belong to them. We are here to cure thay habit.

Most people here thinks that going for an Indian brand will "help keep our money in India only". Though, I don't know how that's helpful.
Even though, India opened its market in 1991 and economy has grown manifolds, still, for some reasons Indian leaders wants everything to be manufactured in India, even though, we don't have any infrastructure to support it.
That's why any imported item is way too expensive in India, especially electronics and PC components. What world is witnessing now with surge in prices of graphics card, RAM, SSDs, HDDs, etc. is what we are facing from decades.
It's also one of the reasons why Indian market for gaming consoles doesn't even exist.
