I don't see how this is possible unless Microsoft optimized windows phone 8 just for this phone, because windows phone 8 only supports up to 20MP. can't wait to see what Nokia throws down next though. They always bring the awesome NEW stuff to the market.

Does it always have to be "My OS is best and your OS is crap" crap?
Every OS, whether it is Android, iOS, Windows Phone or even Symbian has some great features unique to itself. Similarly, every one of them has some limitations. No OS can ever be "d bst bst OS eva".
Anyway, this article is about Pureview coming to a WP-phone, not about the WP as a platform itself. So hold off on the WP hate until there is a proper article for that. :)
As for Pureview, it is undoubtedly an amazing piece of technology. Those who think that it is all just marketing crap and there is no worthwhile gain, kindly do some research first or else stop posting and wasting your and others' time. And about comparing with professional cameras, Pureview is not about that at all. A phone is something you always have on your perseon, accessible immediately at almost any time of the day. Can you say the same about a camera? If you just happen to walk into a party, will you run back to your house to fetch your $1000 oh-so-amazing camera? Do you want the phone-manufacturing companies to put 2MP on flagship phones' back because 'anything more is a waste and a camera could do job much better'?

I agree that the 808 is the best phone camera by a fair margin.
However, i don't use my phone camera that much and an 8MP shooter (Android, WP8 or iOS) is more than enough for me.

When I transfers my pic to my 40" tv. The picture look crispy. I did not buy S3 for the camera first of all. The camera on the S3 is only a + and since the the 4.1.1 update the low light option got better. Look am an average user. Most people don't buy a smartphone for the camera. The camera is only a bonus. If I want something in the professional quality would get a dslr. You will see it will not sell a lot just like N8, 808 and lumia.
PS: personally I think that Sony has the best tech for the camera in a smartphone.

you know wats so great about news like this? it attracts all the android fan boys that get all jumpy and terrified of soemthing thats not available to them on thier laggy phones!
if samsung had released this info about a 38mp camera, android fanboys would be going BUCK WILD right now talking ccrap about iphone, bb, nokia, wp8, and anything else on the market.
Anybody who talks about pureview vs DSLR in this thread is a pathetic little self-conscious loser... just the fact that you have to compare the industries HIGHEST level of camera to a little pocket sized phone camera says everything in itself! so go on.. keep comparing. it just shows that this camera is WAY beyond the league of any crap apple, samsung, moto, HTC, or sony spit it.
Hail nokia and WP8 for stepping it up and giving the haters ANOTHER reason to keep hating!

It is called advanced technology, small devices doing big stuff!!! I would like to see your fartdroid running on internet as my PC does. Then come here and talk about DSLR. Cause 808 can face them proudly. Even professional photographers were amazed of what such a small device can do, and faster to. Yet you come trolling nonsense. You don't like, you don't buy and shut up;). And with 808 i take pictures in no time. I see something, i pull it out of my pocket and shoot. And it is at better quality the point and shoot cameras. So, i'm preaty fast and proud. So stop comparing a very useful device with a professional D-SLR, though is the only thing that beats Nokia. And you call others ignorant and arrogant.

Symbian, blackberry, maemo/meego, ios. And that is why it looks like a cheep Chinese copy of windows. Yes, has allot of stuff, all over the place!! Like an exploded toilet and they forgot to optimize it to;). So stop with that useless and childish system. Symbian is a king in front of it when it comes to optimization and the way of doing things. Android has allot to learn. And will learn what Symbian forgot. Even though Symbian is abandoned is still better then Android. You know why? A small example is a great freaqin camera that will work on android in 20 years. So, for you to understand what am i talking about. Android does not support this type of sensors, Needs more work. ALLot of. But minding the fact that this system is a trend like LAdy Gaga, i already see it's downfall... people getting bored of the useless apps and crappy devices. If there weren't apps. What other useful thing brings android? A big NOTHING:))).

Also, the bigger the sensor is, the more detail captures. So, 40 megapixel will look much more better on paper then a 8 megapixel one;). Now, PureView technology is something you need to learn so not to use your energy for talking nonsense.

Maybe something more modest like 16mp to keep the profile without a huge bulge on the back. OIS, LED+XENON, HD puremotion clear black 1080p amoled 4.99 inch curved glass and more than 3000mah for the screen and an s pen like stylus. and please make it water/freeze/shock proof.

The processor need to be improved because of the increase in Megapixels, the increase in Screen Resolution(400 over ppi)etc.
P/s: Do yourself a favor and checkout the 808's camera photos and compare to your slr photos and your s3 photos. Then come again and say you don't want 38 Megapixel on your android.
