While trainsitioning to Windows Phone certainly made sense, abandoning Symbian isn't such a great idea in my opinion. They should have made Symbian their low-end OS and used it on Asha instead of S40.

With Symbian gone, Stephen Elop has killed a culture that was built around it and Nokia in Finland.

Anonymous, 24 Jan 2013symbian is still the best os in terms of multimedia. My e52... moreWindows phone did not exist??? Did you hear about an XDA variat of a windows 5 phone? I had it, it was later the TyTN from HTC back in early 2007, and it was excellent. That is the third generation touchphones, and Apple and Google were way behind.. Use some wiki to learn if you are too young to have experience...

I still don't understand why they should kill symbian. It's still a good OS, mature and powerful.

My experience using Symbian S60 3rd was great.
They should use that in Asha series instead of S40.

They should also make it FULL open source like android. Latest symbian^3 were only partial open source, no wonder, no one want to license it..

Farewell to the legend. We had many great times together and if I see a Symbian that I want at a good price I'll buy it anyway, it can do all I really need.

symbian is still the best os in terms of multimedia. My e52 can play music, video wireless. I hadn't still seen this feature not even on galaxy note 2 or any windows phone. Mind that it is a phone that's almost 4 years old.
Even though it had features that we won't see too soon, symbian had its problems. The specs are seriously low end and the system is generally laggy due to ARM11 CPUs that nokia used. While dual core was out, nokia was still on a 680MHz and a crappy broadcom GPU.This made users switch and also the high price they had. It was the best nokia could do as the os was already dying itself. i have a lot of good things to say about symbian but also many bad. Overall, it was a great os with lots of features and very advanced on multimedia and texting, which made it a great option when android was worse than ios and windows phone didn't exist. Whatever, what would other OEMs have used 5 years ago when android was anonymous? Now that android is on top, they left symbian and got android, leaving only nokia with it. Seriously, nokia should begin making a range of android devices with pure view camera and some amazing specs. I can't imagine some nokia droids not to have success as nokia is still considered one of the most reliable phone makers.

Symbian is officially dead = Nokia is officially dead.
WP OS is nowhere near as good as Symbian in term of functionality.
WP is just a pretty face with no such things as 'functionality' at all.
WP is just a toy for kids.

i already had tons of nokia symbian, and all of then were pretty owesome.

                            i had my first symbian 6670, than n70, e65, n82, e 90 communicator, nokia 5800 xm, c7, and finally i got 701.

at the beginning of 2013, i sold my last symbian phone 701, since i knew that this will come, but not as early as that, i hought it is gonna reach the 2014-2015 at most. i really feel sad about nokia .

i already made the switch to android with samsung galaxy s2 ( i got it for a good price). i hope that i made the right choice, i am not sure , but all i can say that android is very good os.

i'm gonna miss the fm transmitter on 701( 701 is a very capable phone, the only difference with 808 is the camera)

Will Lumia follow the similar fate like 808 Pure View?
What is Nokia's backup plan if this is really happening?

I was very disappointed in Nokia's decision. I've
been saving up to buy an Nokia 808 PureView, but after
reading this news I was shocked and
disappointed. I would not use the savings to
                                        buy separation phone.
