Regardless of huawei restrictions from US ban they still making awesome phones worth money spend.
Here in Slovakia central Europe we many people still have Huawei or Honor phones.
My company still selling Huawei or Honor phones.
Once you were happy with certain brand you will stick to that brand and will prefer that brand over another.
In past i always had Nokia until i tried Sony Erricsson. Then i had Sonny erriscsson phones for like 5-7 years until they sunk. After that i stick to huawei for 3 years and since 2015 i had Lenovo or Motorola.
Last week of July 2021 i bought Xiaomi Mi 11 lite 5G phone because my carrier had no decent 5G Motorola or Lenovo phone for sale. Just basic ones 4G with price tag under 200 and above 800 which is beyound of what i am willing to spend for a phone.
400 euros is my limit. Anything over are just money flushed to toilet.
400 eur devices are equally fast as flagships can easily last 2-3 years and does same tricks.
Paying 1000 for a phone makes no sense for me because apart running every app by 0,002 seconds faster and maybe bit better camera which have zero differences on a 6 inch screen makes no sense for me as always. Rather spend for better hollidays than buy an expensive phone which after 2 years will have 30% of its original value.

I also commute to a different city for work when the Covid 19 regulations allow. The 5g signal is pretty stable even on the bullet train and is stable in these two cities on the streets and in commercial areas. However, it is very bad in the middle of many apartment complexes where there are a lot of high rise buildings. Both the 5g and 4g signal are rubbish in my apartment but I have the wifi to use there so it doesn't matter as much. It does really drain the battery though but I can charge it in my office anyway so it doesn't matter so much on a regular day in work. They have definitely downgraded 4g here though since 5g was introduced. To be honest the current 'fake 5g' is not a whole lot better than the old 4g but because 4g has gotten worse it is quite a bit better than the 4g e.g. if I'm listening to the radio from my country or making a skype call at least it usually works on 5g but I often used to get disconnected on 4g. I might try 4g again just out of curiosity for a few days to see if it is any different now

              1. 5g is fast IF you're stationary and at a spot with good location. If you so much as walk 2 steps you can lose connection. the handover from 1 base station to the next is incredibly long. In fact, it is faster to switch to airplane mode then reconnect
              2. 5g sucks batteries like no one's business, and the phone gets warm (i guess it's searching or trying to connect to 5g). It gets warm enough to throttle my S22 ultra.
              3. 5g is still in "beta". your 5G phones now will not work on the real 5G network that will be launching soon. So in 1 or 2 years, all current 5G phones now are useless.

so not sure what's the beef about having 5G now. FOMO?

Switched from an Honor v30pro with kirin 990 to a snapdragon 870 phone and the signal and stability of 5g was far superior with the Kirin 990. Pity about the effective ban on Kirin chips though

I'm still not sure about this idea since you literally use half of the screen when not folded and that can have a catastrophic effect if you drop it.

Surely there must be a way to kick-start a $300 fold around phone. I've had designs for such for around the last 14 years. From mini phone size to larger that folds out to a 8-9 inch tablet. But now we can use wireless charging and a weather proof design, and even portless with an external attachment. It doesn't matter about the chipset, plenty are speedy today. But hey, a game version with valve and NVIDIA streaming and a big fat processor sounds good too. The sort of thing a certain top phone company should be doing. I know what to do with that heat as well.

                              Now cheaper. Nice.

I think without GMS Huawei's sales are mostly restricted to China. The problem here is that they have slowed down 4g networks since 5g came on stream so basically if you don't have a 5g phone your internet speed will be crippled. Apart from lack of 5g though the restrictions imposed on them are also affecting their sourcing for many components that use US technology. They don't even seem to be able to source the same level of camera hardware as previously so it's difficult for them to compete with brands that have no such restrictions.

I always carry a powerbank 5000mah super slim so don't give rats about battery drainage.
