01 May 2022
Half e-reader and half-tablet, this device has a high cost but comes with a lot of features.

Hi, how can I move documents from files to Notes and organize them in folders in a Huawei Matepad Paper, please?

spaglio, 03 May 2022I agree with you. I was looking forward to this review but,... moretotally agree, particularly as the lack of google-connectivity one the one hand and the really lame proprietary writing-sketching software that can hardly compete with taking notes on post-its was hardly part of the review :(

I see colors on this picture: https://www.gsmarena.com/huawei_matepad_paper_review-news-54144.php#image3
Photo in up left corner is not black and white.

Faux-leather cover and M-Pencil included in the box?

I think they would sold separately.

I use Surface Pro as ebook reader, note taking, tablet, laptop.. 12' screen

The problem is battery and visibility outside. but I would not go back to eink. I expect that battery tech will improve more than eink next years.
If you don't need PC apps, an android tablet is better

To me it's clear the reviewer is not very familiar with the e-ink category. The proper comparison would be to Onyx Boox devices, more specifically probably the Note Air 2.
Like some other commenters I would like to know more about the e-ink aspects such as the refresh rates, pen latency, the pen tech (AFAIK, the Bluetooth on the pen isn't for writing but for remote control features)
Maybe the reviewer ks take a closer look at the field and amend the review?

Seph, 03 May 2022You can find a used Microsoft Surface for 500 or less which... moreThis is an "e-ink" device, mostly for reading purpose only, why would someone a surface device over this or any e-ink tablet? This is a niche market where buyers look for devices that have a paper-like display and can last a week or more without charging.

Corporate Outlook, Teams, OneDrive recently stopped working as they don't pass Intune corporate portal checks anymore on my Nova 7, so I can't use these MS apps anymore

You can find a used Microsoft Surface for 500 or less which can do A LOT more than this tablet and have a superior writing experience. This device is more or less dead on arrival because of the price.

You could compare it with Sony Digital Paper

What the??! What are GSM Arena thinking? This is not a great review!

I am really surprised at the short-sightedness of the reviewer to make passing comments and comparisons to a standard Android and Apple tablet.
This is primarily an e-writer designed for free-hand writing: the e-reader element is a given, a secondary function required in order to meet its primary purpose; it is NOT a tablet nor is it an exclusive e-reader, and should not be compared as such.
Making these comparisons is no different to comparing a Bugatti Veyron to a Boeing 777 because, well, they both carry at least two people, very fast and have an engine!
Users looking for a review of this, aren't really concerned about whether they can play games and watch videos.

What I want to know is, how well does it stand-up against ReMarkable 2 & Wacom One - the go to leaders of the e-ink market.
This is the digital replacement of the traditional notepad and pens: progress in the modern era in an effort to save paper and move notes to the editable, sortable, retrievable and shareable digital office.

I want to know abut the haptic feedback, does it FEEL like writing on paper with the same paper-resistance and possibly sound, and how balanced is the pen? Does it feel natural in the hand like a standard HB pencil?
How good is the handwriting to text capture - this is crucial for converting illegible scrawls into readable text.
How easy can text be read in direct sunlight; can the slate be easily held for 6+ hours whilst writing and editing a novel or article.
How much more easier is this when taking notes rather than typing away frantically on a laptop? Could this device replace smart pens such as Livescribe and Moleskein.
How many pressure points does the pen capture? Can the tablet quickly switch between text and drawing/shading based solely on the amount of pressure applied to the pen? And can I change the text appearance between bold, semi-bold, normal, italic and light based on how I hold the pen? Can I draw and write in colour? And can I choose the font for converted text?
And what about ink bleed? How well does the ink bleed into the e-paper to look like written ink, or does it just sit on top floating and disconnected?
And how easy does this integrate with MS Office (specifically Word), Google Drive, OneNote, EverNote, DropBox, and Adobe tools? And what document format does this save as, does it only save as pdf which makes transcribing to Word harder? I want to spend the day writing in the sunshine, in the garden or a park, and maybe a couple of hours later on in front of my pc, can I do this?
Can I use this to write music? It has a recording function so would be great to hum a tune and write the music.
And about that stylus, what if it breaks, can I use another Bluetooth pen? Did you even test this?
And how long does it take to recharge, how much use is a 5-minute charge?

YoshiAkash, 02 May 2022Which is better? Remarkable or this?It depends what you want to use it for: I have a reMarkable 2 and an Onyx Boox Nova colour 3, which is similar as a concept to the MatePad paper. The reMarkable is unmatched when it comes to note-taking and productivity (marking pdfs etc) the Boox has the benefit of apps and in this sense it is better as an e-reader since you can have both kindle and kobo apps, plus you can do some decent web browsing (not videos).

So if you want to use it for viewing text and read books the Boox or the MatePad are probably better, but if you want it predominantly for note taking and marking documents, then in my view the reMarkable is a one-way street.

Onyx are already making similar devices based on Android. You can actually get google play on Onyx and download all sort of book apps
