I have used several Sony phones so far so I can say that the experience is something that I will describe as, not for everyone but those who like it will love it. It's a niche product. Not for everyone. that's the best way I can put it as

Your main experience is with cheaper phones overall. That's why. The v20 is nice. The xperias do not have special dacs or amps. Just the standard stuff.
$2000 is insane.

The specs are good. But, Sony Xperia phones aren't my choice, because:
1. They lazy bring 65W / 80W / 120W charger in the box
2. Too expensive
3. They are no longer available in Indonesia. Looks like they are bankrupt on Indonesia region

Meanwhile most people still don't have big TV's with 4K resolution... And they are like over 43" in size. Not to mention despite all the hype, camera is apparently rather disappointing as well. So, why would you pay 1600€ for a device that's needlesly wasting resources on pointless 4K resolution display and still has bad camera when you can get iPhone Pro or Galaxy S22 for around 1000€ with more than great displays and far superior cameras? Not to mention getting far longer software support than just sad 2 years. 2 years of updates on 1600€ device is an insult and I don't care how big or small Sony's mobile division is.

The 1 iii is a VERY solid device the gives me what I need and natural photos to boot. Just wished the battery life was better which is why the 1 IV was tempting for me at first.
I want to see if the rumors of the upcoming Xperia Pro becomes a Play device instead. If that comes with VRR, better DAC, and bigger battery, even for $2,000, I'm sold. Sony's quality is REALLY good despite the lighter software support. At least their software crushes OnePlus's recent ridiculousness.

And Samsung and Apple as well as many others have pre order specials with bundles and freebies so that point holds zero relevance.
Sony cuts cost on hardware, software, marketing, availability, etc. Giving out a cheaper product with less money spent on it but charge way more than anyone else.
So yeah thats an issue.

Sony will be rushed into closing their mobile division just like LG did. Sony is too slow to deliver new models and has been pointed out. Sony's 5 and 1 series are nice phoned with good audio SOC's, cameras, and displays. If they want to sell more phones they need to release them earlier and the release needs to be a world release. Just make one phone with all the frequencies and done. I wouldn't pay the crazy amount of money they want for their phones though. The 10 series doesn't even have 120hz. I'd definately pass that phone up.

Sony still provides ALL of those features and even more (freebies, premium earphones etc) Their phones still have a full display without notches or cutouts, there is a stunning 4K display and even that 2 stage camera shutter for taking photos like a pro. Until recently Sony also threw in a free charger. All this in a phone costing in the same price range as other flagships. But at the end of the day, people still complain like "tHiS iS oVeRpriCEd!!!"

Gotta give them credit for giving phone headphone jack and expandable storage, but at this price point, auch. Remember, we used to have all this on every single phone and now it's apparently a functionality they want to charge us double? Come on. Also despite all the hype around camera, results are rather mediocre and mostly disappointing. Also 4K display for such tiny display is entirely unnecessary and just wastes power, both in driving so many pixels on the panel as well as GPU just having to process so much more data that you'll never even be able to see anyway as it's so tiny.

Every year these phones get love. Hundreds of comments, back and forth arguments, people raising the history and of course talk of the headphone jack. Every year it's the same thing.
That love and passion doesn't lead to sales. Sony doesn't want your love. They've been getting that in droves. They want your money.

My last Sony phone was the Xperia 5 lll and it refused to connect to wifi after the initial setup. Sony's customer service was non existent.
