Yes the Xperia 1mk4 is expensive but in the UK you can get some good deals on it. Pre-order on one carrier is offering free headphones and an extra £300 off when you trade in your old phone. You have to be a customer though. Cracking deal that as it brings the phone below a thousand. Been offered £100 off plus free headphones on another carrier. So not as expensive if you negotiate and look around. Never pay full price.

Ali Bashir, 15 May 2022Jocks on you, your comment proves that whom are voting &quo... moreYou Sony followers are a rare breed indeed. Worse than Apple lovers.
Its not hate to know you're not getting your monies worth. And that the phone is barely available for you to consider..

-The pro? It was $2500 with brightness of 8 year old Galaxy S4 completely ruining its supposed use case, pitiful battery, weak camera, and last gen soc.
-1 iii? Still costs more than other devices with 7 year old Galaxy S5 brightness. Same battery life problems and camera.
-Pro 1? $1800 but you still don't even get the full 20mp of the sensor. Some good results if you bracket images on a tripod. But still not as impressive as hyped to be.
And still 7 year old S5 brightness, weaker battery life, etc.
And all 3 had weaker speakers too.

Now this one finally bumps to a battery slightly better suited to handle 4k or slightly more deserving of the price tag. And finally bumps up brightness to only being a couple years behind. And tries to catch up in speakers.
We will see with camera. But aside from color science its not just that their images are special. They are just a little less processed. They are still processed just not as well. And I don't mean "sharpening".

Why do I want to spend $1300, $1400, $1800, or $2500 for a device that either just matches my current or 3 year paid off devices? Or straight up downgrades from those in most other ways????
And knowing thats not worth it or justified makes us haters???
4k alone doesn't justify that. And neither do 3.5mm or sd slot. Yes those are important but in no way justifies charging so much more. Especially while lacking so much.
Other phones have those and cost way way less. And some of those still match or beat it in a lot of these areas.

DMX, 15 May 2022If Sony reconsiders that high price, I would say about $1,0... morewell, not all sony fans will just do that...
i myself is not a fan of xperia midrangers...
          despite having excellent battery life...
but for 1iv, deym... might wait for 5iv, if it does have that same camera capabilities, it would be instant...

ab2030du, 15 May 2022The phone has a classic design, but it is very, very expens... moreVery few people. Hoeven despite their bugs, over pricing, hardware matching results of phones 2-8 years old, etc many people would still buy their phones if thr simply would market them and make them really available in most locations.
But they don't do that on top of serious flaws so they always drag behind and never learn.
At least this time around they put a much better battery size and moved up from 7 year old phone brightness.

1 Mk4 is definitely on my list, though I'll wait for the smaller 5 Mk4. As for the 10 Mk4, as much as I'm deeply impressed with its battery endurance rating, it's not a worthy one year upgrade over last year's 10 Mk3.

How is being years behind in brightness, speakers, and battery focusing on "multimedia" just cause it has 4k capability?

missing possible answer to "Will you buy a Sony Xperia 1 IV?": i already have a previous version, too soon to replace it so i will wait for the V.

though... the continuous optical zoom is really interesting: very helpful for better image composition. very tempting.

The phone has a classic design, but it is very, very expensive. I don't know who would buy at this very expensive price.

I would love to buy *any* recent phone from Sony even though they are more expensive than their competitors. The real problem is Sony mobile division is no longer in operation in my country, and total cost of importing a phone would cost nearly 150% of the phone's price.

Well to be honest paying 500 for below average Sony midranger with a price at which point many other brands sells proper flagships is a no for me.
Same goes for a flagship grade Sony Xperia 1 IV.
1400 eur for a phone without charger in box and with lack of proper flagship features like zero bloatware and 100% stock android compared to nearly stock android sony is giving now.

blue, 15 May 2022So far 1500 votes and nearly 50 % "No thanks"... ... moreJocks on you, your comment proves that whom are voting "no thanks" are mostly haters which is even worse than fans because Sony fans are just "Sony" fans, however haters are multiple brands which makes it even harder to evaluate the result unfortunately, since these polls are vulnerable to subjectivity with its algorithm.

They're both too expensive but especially the 10 iv is a absolute joke. €500 and it can't even do 4k video and it has s 6xx series SOC?? The Samsung A52s absolutely crushes it

Anonymous, 15 May 2022Which will cost $1000 anyway, still too expensive.A Sony phone that is 80% of what the Xperia 1 IV is for less is not a bad deal, and one grand is actually sensible given how Samsung, Zero Minus and other Android OEMs price their flagships.

If Sony reconsiders that high price, I would say about $1,099 and it would be a very interesting proposal.
