Weekly poll results: Huawei Mate Xs 2 struggles to justify its price tag

29 May 2022
Trade sanctions have cut it off from vital tech. Also, outward foldables are perceived as too fragile and people are unwilling to spend this much money on one.

I get boomers crying "Itz goNnA BrEaK" all the time well yeah lol they're on their third screen replacement on their normal phone, of course you'll break it if you're a clumsy idiot like that. 1.5 years for me and no issues with the Xs.

Using Huawei mate xs for 2 years already and I'm really happy that the phone don't fold inward. Tried samsung fold 2 and 3, but I can tell you - inward folding provides bad user experience. With mate xs for example I read something and if I decide to expand screen I can visually see how the content expands (its like you drag browser window on pc). You don't loose focus, the transition is nice. And when you have galaxy fold 3 or any other inward folding device - you loose focus. For example you watch youtube, you decide you want bigger screen, you have to turn your devices sideways (so you loose eye contact with content) and you have to open new screen. Also, usually you unintentionally click on some related video with your hand so when you open your screen - you are totally confused and lost. Sure, screen outside can break more easily, but everyone who really try both types of foldable phones - wouldn't want inward folding

Would love to buy it but I think Imma wait it out for a while ... Too expensive 😑

Any android that is over $250 struggles to justify its price tag.

All those that chose they wanted one either picked that option by mistake or will never really even go find one let alone buy it.

Anonymous, 30 May 2022Unless the screen doesn’t break or wear in 6-12 months usageThat will never really be a guarantee, but already is for most users.
Apple will just wait a little longer and then market it as a revolution. Then all their users will say apple perfected the tech that others matured.
                        Age old scenario.

I didn't participate in polls and I ignore what consumers think.

What consumers perceive does not affect the reality. They blindly believed Samsung was best and the inward folding Galaxy Fold/Flip were the best foldable phones even after all those countless cracked Galaxy Fold/Flip screens. Later they're forced to face the hard reality and pay for their cracked screens. They had put faith in Samsung display and they got pink/green lines on their phone screens. Late realization and regret are no use. It's their money that they lost and their discernment is only their own responsibility at the end of the day. Companies spend a huge amount of money on marketing PR to manipulate consumer perception. Each consumer gets to pay and get what they deserve.

Those who perceive the price of Mate Xs 2 is too high will buy a Galaxy Fold/Flip thinking they are cheaper then pay for cracked screens over and over again which in total will cost them more than a Mate Xs 2, (all the stress and hassle being a bonus).

The 5G is a big thing, but it's also a big marketing buzzword pushed by telecom carriers. When I see waves of people who bought low quality Apple/Samsung 5G phones only to be told to turn off 5G due to all kinds of issues or only to tell they don't get any signals (no service) let alone 4G, I know which actually matters to me - actual connectivity or a 5G label. Even let alone all those fake 5Gs. I often hear "We have 5G here in (country name)", but often those countries don't even have *proper* 4G. Not every 5G is created equal. Not everything called 5G is the same 5G. Very few 5Gs have capability to actually function as 5G at the moment.

A 5G label doesn't mean you're going to actually get 5G connectivity or benefits of 5G. IP ratings don't mean your device won't actually get liquid damage. 5000mAh doesn't mean your battery will actually last long. 108MP doesn't mean you're going to actually get good photos. 5nm, 4nm doesn't mean that your phone will actually perform well. It's easy to see numbers and specifications. Those numbers are what most consumers see and pay for and are what companies show. However, quality is not visible outright. Only those who appreciate it can feel it.

I really love the design of Mate XS 2. Classy, stylish and cool. Even I don't care about 5g and gms but 2000 Euro is too much imo. Innovative phone but "no, thank you" at this price tag

There are too many comprises on the Mate Xs 2, but outer foldables might be the design of the future. For now, this design is too risky and the case does still does not protect the screen.
