Apple unveils M2 chipset with 18% faster CPU, 35% faster GPU compared to the M1

06 June 2022
It's built on a more advanced 5nm process, and comes with two extra GPU cores.

Apple decides not to compare with AMD Rembrandt (Ryzen 6000 series) because they knew they couldn't market it much better than when comparing to Intel's Alder Lake.

Lets hope Apple do a decent job leveraging this chip. Making an extremely efficient chip is great, but their cooling engineering recently has not. Here's hoping they have reasonable cooling solutions so this chip can be at it's best.

Bigmeme, 06 Jun 2022Same old 5nm node smhNo it will most likely be the N5P (previous generation was N5) which has better performance than N4

What a shame it can only encode/decode 8K video but can't send it to a 8k monitor :(

Wow, Apple's entry level laptop performs as good as some top intel laptops (core i7) and even gaming laptops, while using only a quater of the energy. Not to mention other advantages like no heating, no fan noise, thin and light and better real world use experience because of optimisation.
If Microsoft was not lazy and comfortable with its windows market domination, arm based windows would have seen Qualcom, Samsung, mediatek, AMD etc produce cheap and powerful processors that would have sent intel out of the market.
Heck, even some basic X86 programs run better in the M1 with rosetta emulator.

Da Gud Shepherd, 06 Jun 2022Wow, Apple's entry level laptop performs as good as so... moreThe M1 ultra couldn't keep up with a 3050, what makes you believe it will keep up with gaming laptops.

If you are about to say what gpu has to do with your argument, you should not talked about gaming laptops that focus on gpu performance first.

Da Gud Shepherd, 06 Jun 2022Wow, Apple's entry level laptop performs as good as so... moreI will trust only numbers from reputable reviews. Apple is not trust worthy.

Remember the M1 ultra? Supposedly as powerful as a 3090 but it could not beat a 3050 in most cases. Even on geekbench, Apple fans favorite bensmark the M1 ultra was worse than a 3060.

                    Same old 5nm node smh

Anonymous, 06 Jun 202218% CPU over Two years is not good at all, needs 25% improv... moreM1 is based on the A14 cores, M2 the A15, and both of those were introduced 1 year apart, so the 2 year thing isn’t really that straight forward.

But ignoring that for a sec, why does it ‘need to be 25%’ ????

Strange move to introduce M2. So probably next year M2 Ultra and 3nm M3 in 2024 yet. Too late...
