I’m buying X because the price, here ... moreSame reason but different market segment for Indonesia. Second hands iPhone or cheap Samsung really popular with teenager to keep them in the community. Whatever the spec, iPhone and Samsung is a must otherwise cannot join in certain group.
In most cases the phone itself actually slow and in bad condition.

I’m buying X because the price, here In Portugal the minimum salary is very low and people buy from Swappie for exemple.
Used iPhones are 60 to 70% of sales of all all iPhones sales.
The iPhone 8 is very popular too.

MasEnha, 13 Jun 2022These iPhones are already discontinued. The price you have ... morePossibly because iPhone users in the developing world usually buy old-gen iPhones. Most now are due to upgrade after 7 lost iOS 16 support.
And they sure aren't upgrading to iPhone 13 or 12. Too expensive. X and XR are the sweet spot because of the design change.
In 3-4 years time, you'll see the same phenomenon when iPhone 8/SE users skip notch models to buy 14 Pros with dual hole punches.

There is limited guarantee if we can get good device especially for the battery. Spareparts would still be expensive even the devices coming from 2018-2019. No official warranty is a big issue.

Why buy this? Why this popular? Because it's so damn cheap right now. The price is equivalent to mid range Samsung and Xiaomi like redmi note 11 pro, galaxy a series etc.
