SShock, 20 Jun 2022I'll smash X for doubt with that one. Windows Defender... moreFor me it is the opposite. Avast makes my laptop slower especially if you count the startup delay after boot. Windows defender is pretty light.

But i agree windows pc is the best gaming machine.

Zuzuz, 19 Jun 2022Just spyware from Microsoft. Not spyware, but storage and ram eating for no defense at all.

Anonymous, 20 Jun 2022Even my 12 years old laptop doesn't get slow. I'm... moreI'll smash X for doubt with that one. Windows Defender created noticeable drag on several systems, from before mentioned desktop powerhouse to few years old Ryzen 2500U, 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD to lowest end ASUS Transformer with Atom CPU and also current ultrabook with Pentium N6000, 4GB RAM and 256GB SSD. It always made them drag their feet around visibly. The moment I installed Avast on any of them it was like they are 100% more snappy and responsive. Especially when running large binaries or compiling them.

However it's free, there are no nag screens, it won't delete false positives as other antiviruses did for me, nor is it inconvenient to use. Also, Avast has been known for stealing data and when using the free version it constantly annoys you with popups.. That minimal impact it might have on more safety is not worth it whatsoever

SShock, 20 Jun 2022Doesn't slowdown and it's lightweight? It's ... moreWindows Defender is known for having a low impact on system ressources. Yes real-time protection can take a few seconds to check whatever you're running, but that isn't the point. Also mentioning Avast afterwards just make me laugh out loud at work, that Antivirus is terrible when not paid for and there are tons of alternatives, including Defender, which do not beg you to pay for it whenever it gets a chance to ask for it.

Anonymous, 19 Jun 2022Why so much hate? Windows defender is greatly improved and ... moreDoesn't slowdown and it's lightweight? It's ANYTHING but that. It significantly slows down all systems I've tried them on, including my desktop with Ryzen 5800X,32GB RAM and 2TB SSD. It gets really bad when you try to run something like NVIDIA driver installer. It just chokes entire system for a second. Compiling of apps always takes so much longer and it visibly chokes the system again. I never ever had anything like this with Avast. Not even straight after install and it gets even lighter after it has checked files and flagged them as clean in the scan cache. Which Windows Defender just seems to keep resetting non stop and rescanning same stuff or something. I thought it would get better over time, but it's still identically bad as it was years ago. And its antiransomware component (Controlled folder access or whatever it's called) has been broken since its very introduction. It's suppose to use whitelist to avoid being annoying yet it keeps on being annoying and complaining about legit apps modifying files in protected folders. Same folders that you can't even adjust, they are hardcoded in. Avast has similar system, but not only actually works using own extensive whitelist, it's fully automatic and only asks if unknown apps tries to access protected folders. Where it asks you to allow or block it. Windows Defender just blocks it and becomes major pain in the rear to a point I always just turned that nonsense off. They haven't fixed it for years and looks like they never will.

Windows Defender is fine for just existing, but there are so many way better, more capable options that are faster and also free.

                      I don't do games, so i don't need windows.
7 is the best windows. 10 is good. 11 is too unstable and crashed a lot.

Why so much hate? Windows defender is greatly improved and doesn't slow down your laptop/computer. It is easy. It is lightweight. It is free. What else do you want? And it blocks most viruses. For serious viruses or malware you should use Malwarebytes and not Avast or Bitdefender or others.

people still keep saying apple is more secure whilst ignoring the fact that microsoft make a system that works on 1,000's of different kinds of hardware sets yet apple only has to work work on 1 (they degrade it for there not so usefull phone/tablet version). they do suffer from viruses and other malware at times and for a 1 system brand that is still a failure.
