Samsung Galaxy S23 and S23+ to have the same telephoto camera as their predecessors

The selfie snapper might be changing, but the zoom lens on the back won't.

Bebochekov, 28 Jun 2022Samsung is more "sustainable" than Apple, iPhone ... more"Very hard to repair" iFix it disagrees with you on that one as iPhones are relatively easy to repair. Expensive? Maybe. Don't break things. Phones rarely fail these days except with mechanical damage induced by user.

Both Samsung and Apple are most sustainable thanks to long software support than basically anyone else in the industry. Partially Google too, but they are largely incompetent with software support (which is hilarious given they are software company first), making it rather irrelevant...

It seems to me that Samsung is going on a two year cycle now. The A53 didn't upgrade much but the A73 did, I expect the A54 to get a better upgrade and the A74 not. As for the S line, we'll no big upgrade except for the Ultra. I can see the Ultra getting a 200mp camera and maybe better cameras over all.

Anonymous, 28 Jun 2022"And more importantly, they don't give a shit abo... moreCharger removal is an ultimate bulls**t move because it's not helping environment at all when they need to make chargers anyway, package them separately and ship them in extra boxes separately, this is especially true for all sorts of fast chargers that people do not have and not including them means people aren't getting all the advertised high speeds of charging unless they buy such charger. When they were included, they were there and when I sold my phone or gave it away, I also gave all the accessories with it. Chargers were not ending up in landfills as everyone is saying, they were going with the device. And if device failed at any point, it can still be used as backup or other location charger.

However, Samsung giving almost all their phones 4 years of major OS updates and 1 extra year of security updates only makes them actually care for longevity. It gives people the incentive to keep their phones for longer. At least judging by myself, I've never had any phone for 5 years because they were all Androids and they basically only got like a year or two of updates and then I was left out watching how phones with newer Android versions were getting all sorts of cool stuff. I left for iPhone at that point and I'm now heading to 4 years of ownership of a single model. With bunch of cool exciting stuff coming to iOS 16, I have no real incentive to buy something else and I'll stick with it for at least another year or two. iOS 17 should be the last major update. And seeing how good support Apple offers, I'm inclined to stick with them in the future and not jump to another brand. Samsung being really the only exception that I might actually consider because of the long support they guarantee as well. If I'll go with Android phone again it'll almost certainly be Samsung. I just hope they'll sort out their Exynos by the time I do...

They talk about sustainability and environment but the truth is they cannot really do anything more to help the environment because that means making phones that last longer and that will mean lesser sales for them so lesser revenues. All they will do is remove the charger to increase their profits

Samsung has continuously deteriorated the flagship models over the last few years. No more micro-SD, still the useless crappy curved screen, no more headphone jack and the batteries are not replaceable, with simultaneous deterioration in battery life.

All the big manufacturers are doing the same nonsensical shit, they don't care what the customers want. And more importantly, they don't give a shit about environmental sustainability.

It is high time that the authorities in the EU put a stop to this nonsense. Even the smartphone manufacturers don't get the idea that their strategies and actions are stupid.

It is astonishing that Samsung does not even use its own "high-tech image sensors" for its own flagship models. They must be so bad that they had to decide not to use them. But there are plenty of Chinese competitors to sell the crap to.

It would be nice if Samsung could bring back the 64mp Bayer camera from the S20/S21, then you have both 2 and 3x zoom and a high resolution sensor for bright daylight conditions. I imagine the reason Samsung got rid of it is cost, I think that making a 64 or even 200mp sensor is not so difficult now, what is difficult is making a Bayer filter for a 64mp 1/1.7 sensor, a quad Bayer filter is much easier as four pixels share the same colour filter

I hope they will add at least 60W charging. If the OS is improved then the results of the cameras can be even better with a new CPU. Those who expect phones to bring something new are living in a dream world. With each new generation, they are getting closer to the limit.

Same telephoto from last year, same punch hole from last yet samsung fan journos and samsung fans will defend it to death.

Same with apple fan journos and fan boys if Apple repeats something.

These companies earn trillions yet repeat the same stuff for years by using 'supply chain problems' or 'it is good enough' as excuses. The companies' journos and fans repeat the same words again.

Fans of the companies need to criticize their own companies. Only then they will change

The S23 needs to have better battery life than it's predecessors.

I hope the S23 has a 4,000+ mAh battery & easily lasts all day (non-gaming), by which I mean 24hrs, with 6+hrs SoT, using an efficient SoC, (probably a TSMC fabbed QSd), hopefully resulting with a GSMArena endurance rating of 100 hours.
We've had enough of Exynos in Europe IMO.

The competition is edging ahead in camera quality, & most of us don't care about 8k or money wasted on P.R., invest in the product & it will sell itself.
The S line is Flagship, so it should be the best!
I hope you can sort it Samsung.
