RealLifePhones, 03 Jul 2022Don't care about the sh1thole called UK to be honest. ... moreIt's not as simple as that. You totally misunderstand the difference. VoIP is cheap because it's purely an internet based call. It's not a number calling a number using cellular masts. It's an IP address connecting to another IP address. It doesn't cost anything. Setting up a call from a cell tower is much more complicated and will always cost money. The end.

RealLifePhones, 03 Jul 2022Don't care about the sh1thole called UK to be honest. ... moreThe short version is the market will take care of that. The long version is you can't price POTS ancient, inefficient, but assured circuit switching the same way as the modern, efficient, but unassured packet switching. There are many more layers to this conversation, such as SLAs, but it all boils down to the technology used to interconnect that call simply costs a lost more. I am not advocating for the use of that old and expensive way of doing things, simply informing that there is a reason for that -- and it's up to the market to say we want the cheaper technology, because even if it is unassured it works really well most of the time (arguably even better many many times) and it's cheaper.

Most people in developed countries have flatrates for calling and I think flatrates should include international calling without surcharge no matter if EU country or not because I can get exactly this functionality without surcharge using VoIP now and it's a relic of the past to charge for international calls. If we can send internet data across the world for basically nothing than the same logic applies to phone data it's as simple as that.

Very short memory there. Do you not even recall the expenses scandal or the behaviour of Boris Johnson and his cohorts during the pandemic? Hosting parties on the taxpayer's dime while the rest of the country had to stay in their houses and wear masks if they dared venture to the shop.

It was pure selfishness. An act of supreme selfishness. It couldn't have been more selfish!!! Look up 'selfish' in a dictionary and it says 'Brexit.'

So I'm not sure why people make this argument as if it's in some way meaningful.

Secondly Scotland is a gangrenous limb attached to England, it is a net loss to England's economy. And if the Scottish independence vote had allowed English people to vote too Scotland would've been voted out. You are not wanted, and you are not needed

A decade ago David Cameron the PM at the time went to the EU again and again to ask to discuss the issues a huge part of the UK population had with our relationship with the EU, they refused.

Again and again he tried to talk, until he said he would have to call a referendum, the EU never thought we would leave because they are elites sitting in their overpriced apartments in Brussels that WE PAY FOR, not knowing anything about the struggle of the average working class Brit.

The fact you people want more, bigger, further reaching and unaccountable government bureaucrats living off us just shows how naive you are.

Yeah, but lets all argue about fishing and roaming charges like that's what will really matter a century from now.

Shirleyboy, 30 Jun 2022How is Brexit good for the long term stability of the UK ?... moreLook further than your own wallet when considering if it's good to have a huge federal government controlling multiple countries.

More of a margin voted for Brexit than US voters did for Obama. I'm sick of hearing how not everyone wanted to leave the EU....but I'm sure if Scotland wanted to be a sovereign country you would be on their side.

                          Hypocritical, short sighted, selfish remoaners.

RealLifePhones, 01 Jul 2022Next step: Make them drop charges for calling people in oth... moreYou're using a VoIP service so the call doesn't use a mast and it's just using your internet. Calling a foreign country through a mast using your sim involves a lot more and there is a call set up charge. If you're in France you get calls to other French numbers and same in any other country. Of course you're going to get charged for calling overseas. Are you saying someone in America should be able to call a UK number for free or vice versa? If you're just referring to the EU, the UK has left it so that's a moot point really.

Unlike the US, that kind of roaming (i.e., getting a rival carrier inside your own country) isn't that usual for most contracts in most Europe countries (except emergency calls, that odd country or, perhaps, the higher-tiered corporate plans). Do keep in mind the law *does not* assure the right to roaming at all times, only that *if* there is roaming then you cannot be overcharged. That is a world of difference.
