01 July 2022
This is only the second time in the last ten years that the figure has dropped below 100 million units for the period.

There are plenty phones with a "smooth" OS experience without stutters. But 60Hz is a completely different experience (you know all about it because of your gaming experience) compared to 120Hz. However, everyone has preferences and it's not something you're interested in. But the majority of people will have a preference right away for 120Hz.

xocomaox, 06 Jul 2022Have you ever used a 120Hz screen? It has almost nothing to... moreI've been gaming at 144Hz for like a decade. I've held few 120Hz phones and I still don't care. Yes, 60Hz is smooth if OS is smooth and doesn't lag and stutter by tripping over itself.

Only thing higher refresh rate does is make whatever it's moving, sharper during transition/motion. Something I literally don't care about on a phone unless it's a jarring transition which never is on iOS.

SShock, 05 Jul 2022If OS is smooth and iOS is, I don't care if it's ... moreHave you ever used a 120Hz screen? It has almost nothing to do with the perceived OS smoothness. It's one of those things that once you start using, you actually struggle to live without because 60Hz is so incredibly NOT smooth, lol.

Yeah 5G connectivity is something that not everyone will experience, but most will. You probably don't need it. But these are huge leaps in technology that have happened which goes back to my point about 2 years being the sweet spot for phones.

xocomaox, 05 Jul 2022I take it you have an iPhone XS? There are a lot of upgrade... moreIf OS is smooth and iOS is, I don't care if it's 60Hz or 120Hz. If it'll happen through eventual specs upgrade, fine, but I don't particularly need to chase this. As for 5G, coverage is only in our major cities and I don't live in any directly, so that goes out the window. Besides, I'm fine with LTE. I can do everything with it just fine. Again, it'll be a "nice to have" when I eventually get it through natural progression of tech, but I don't particularly need it this moment.

There are a lot of upgrades in store for you such as 5G connectivity, 120Hz screen, much better cameras. Depending where you are in the world, upgrading a year or two ago would have been ideal because of promotional offers.

In any case, some people are perfectly fine without 120Hz screens and 5G connectivity. But in many cases, they just don't realize how much better their phone experience can be.

Bebochekov, 03 Jul 2022I paid $330 for a Samsung Galaxy A71 back in 2020, it still... moreI like the attitude. Since the back of the A series is plastic, opening it for a battery swap is pretty easy as well.

WHAT ARE THOSE FAKE REASONS ON THE PICTURE LMAO

Companies give us same or worse phones without charger, 3.5 jack, any significant improvement. Meanwhile prices are increasing af. Its that simple.

Also Samsung is doubling down on the situation and making worse phone than last year. It just doesnt have a phone with decent SoC, no wonder why noone buys their phone. You either buy a trash A53 for already high price or you go for the insane priced S22. No inbetween. And stop saying "its not A52s' successor" because tell me what is the previous phone?? Yes, its the A52s.

I paid $330 for a Samsung Galaxy A71 back in 2020, it still works great running Android 12 and I have one more update to Android 13 and one more year of security updates to go. Battery health is fine so I think I can go at least two more years, maybe three, I can always change my battery and if lt starts to lag a factory reset should do the trick.

xocomaox, 01 Jul 2022Two years is the sweet spot for smartphones.I'm almost at year 4 with my iPhone and I'm perfectly fine with it. I'm quickly annoyed by any lagging or other performance issues, but I just don't have any of them so it's great. I'm still getting full software updates. For the first time in last 12 years of owning smartphones that I don't have the urge to buy new one every 2 years just because phone vendor is lazy and is intentionally leaving me out of major OS updates. Sure I'd have Galaxy S22 Ultra or iPhone 13 Pro or even pro Max, but I just don't see the need when my current phone works so well. Only hardest thing is resisting temptation to try something new out of old habit that I had with Android phones because I was always being left out of cool things...

I believe it's due to the fact that companies believed they can customers educate to accept increasing average prices for an average classed phone, which simply went too far over the last 6 years. Customers are less dump then companies believe. In 2016 you could buy a fully featured upper-midclass phone for 400 EUR (truly 3 cameras: ultra wide, wide, tele, no gimicky-trickery with macro/TOF etc.), these days the same phone would cost 800 EUR. People won't accept prices over 1000 USD/EUR as a real world scenario. Thus price scheme should get scaled back to reason: 400 mid class tier, 800 top class. And all desired features available in 400 class (128GB at least, 6GB RAM, 3 cameras incl tele, AMOLED). And then people would consider to swap their phones more often. Which would not necesarily harm the environment, if recycling would be done properly.

Android companies need to step up their game! sametime Apple is doing great

Phones being overpriced and Chinese phones being Spyware, people not buying phones.
Phone companies doing nothing but taking peoples money for piece of crap.

Of course sales will decline. They're not corn flakes. Or in my case old fashioned Quaker oats .

Have two phones.oneips phone and an one OLED for 4years both powered by 855. Both heat very quickly even in cold days on medium tasks no benchmark. The OLED one has so much burn in that it's hard to read texts. If someone is taking phone for long term use then always take ips cuz I tried my hardest but OLED always disappoints in long term. Also I have full fledged migraine now

I am gonna extend my phone's usability duration using custom ROMs haha. Currently on Android 12.1 PixelOS for Xiaomi 11 Lite NE 5G.

xocomaox, 01 Jul 2022Two years is the sweet spot for smartphones.Don't falsely encourage people to change phones every two years. It is bad for the planet. A lot of water, coal powered electricity, chemicals, crude oil go into manufacturing the phones. And if people change phones too frequently it will lead to overconsumption of these resources.

It also leads to production of a lot of ewaste as companies don't resell or reuse all the phones resold to them. They are just thrown away.
