Disassembly video reveals the bonkers size of Xiaomi 12S Ultra's IMX989 camera module

05 July 2022
The module makes full use of the 1" sensor, unlike certain previous efforts. But it is a rather large and thick module.

But cropped to 1/3.5" to increase the zoom range.

Do not forget the phone os narrower than other flagships, less space inside.

Resolution aside, Sony should take lesson of what sensor size to offer in all three cameras. UW and tele are in Sony specially bad.
If there are multiple phones with similar color performance and ho res, Sony should note that tho.
It's also not just about sensor, I wonder how is corner softness, if it's like axon40u it will be even more interesting.

      Gizmochina

"Another issue with Xiaomi phones is the decay in performance over time. Last year, we bought a Xiaomi 11 Ultra which averaged 55 FPS in Genshin Impact on the Highest settings. Now, the same device is only able to run the game at a meager 38 FPS."

" We are also not excited about the Samsung E5 AMOLED panel on the Xiaomi 11S Ultra as all the E5 panels made by Samsung this year have had an issue where they appear green if you look at it from the side. The panel also has an LTPO function which makes DC dimming impossible making the panel rougher on the eyes."

So the main camera with 1"-type sensor is on the left side, and the ultrawide camera is in the middle? Funny, I thought it would be other way.

Is not a day and night difference but clearly an improvement
still funny how iphone stays ahead even at night in videos.

              What a coincidence.

Let's see what the future holds🤞

CompactPhones5ever, 05 Jul 2022Just another gimmick imo. It used to be "more megapixe... moreCan't expect the Pro-I's 12MP sensor to be any good lol.

Anyways, it's not a gimmick. Having a larger sensor is never a bad thing.

Just another gimmick imo. It used to be "more megapixels = better camera", now it's "bigger sensor = better camera". Wait and see how its photos will somehow still end up being worse than Samsung/Apple equivalents with their disproportionately smaller sensors.

At the end of the day it's all about software image processing. Xperia Pro-I is a clear example of that, you can have 1.0 inch sensor and still have a garbage camera if your software is weak.

I'm not impressed at all. Doesn't seem that large. Also, I've already seen some samples and it doesn't look that great. It's all about software nowadays anyway. A 1/2.55 12mpx sensor can be better than a 1/1 200 mpx sensor, with the right ISP and algorithms.
Take Sony for example. They make the best sensors, but their software is so bad that even if they'd put an APSC or full frame sensor into their phones the pictures would come out trash.

Looking forward to independent reviews of the camera.
