Teardown of the Asus ROG Phone 6 shows all the cooling optimizations

06 July 2022
The cooler has to go in the middle - this keeps the phone comfortable to hold and gives you access to the four buttons on the cooler.

Anonymous, 06 Jul 2022It is to cut costs. Those cooling parts seem cheap as heal ... moreYou are not gonna overheat devices like A53, 10iv, G52 no matter what you do.
That is the point.

Anonymous, 06 Jul 2022Something interesting. If you open phones with 820, 835... morePyrolytic graphite is incredibly expensive because it's a synthetic crystal grown in a furnace. It's actually very common for midrange phones to have a thin strip of it, usually bridging the motherboard and battery. Using thicker layers on high power chips gets expensive so it's not used where the increased bulk of something cheaper would be tolerated.

Bigmeme, 06 Jul 2022Or maybe it's just cost cutting in mid range phones? It is to cut costs. Those cooling parts seem cheap as heal but they can increase a lot the production cost. Also, on mid-range phones, people are less prone to do extensive gaming sessions, so this furthermore explains why they don't add those parts. It is almost the same for laptops for example.

I think passive cooling is more of a gimmick on smartphones, more useful on computers which generate a lot of heat, are not enclosed, and have a wider surface area and volume to be able to install all that cooling system. I wonder if all those passive cooling acts as an insulator instead and with the glass back on the phone….

Redmagic with its active cooling system sustains performance very well with its fan. Xiaomi’s Blackshark can get extremely hot and that’s a gaming phone with lots of “cooling”

            Something interesting.

If you open phones with 820, 835, 845, 855 and 865 you will see somekind of cooling like Graphite or copper.

But not inside midrange, even those ones with Socs stronger than old 8xx. They do not need.
