Computational photography in smartphones are built with physical limitations in mind

Smartphone cameras stack images... And in some cases use context literally pulling already taken photos from the internet and fusing it with what you take on the smartphone

So why despite all this information/development why are people still motivated to talk about lens quality etc

When smartphones are essentially photoshooping machines.....

Through computational photography a smartphone can do some simple calculations and literally see through walls..

We are in the information age... Why would you side with data collected physically over data manipulation digitally why cling to a traditional approaches to photography like in DSLRS

      Why resist so much?

there is no point of using 200MP mode or any other full resolution mode, because there is no HDR and you'll get dark shadows and overexposed sky, also very big file size compared to pixel binned photos.

Results are average. Postprocessing + bad lenses + average sensors sold as hi-end.

Looks like hi res, even if they don't know how to share it losslessly.
It also means 2-3x zoom lens is no longer needed.

They can mount even 500 Mpx sensor but the problem lays in the quality of the lenses. Most of them is low quality plastic lenses and their diffraction limited resolution is about 13 Mpx. So it means that light got resolution cut before it gets to the sensor surface.
200 mpx are mostly marketing gimmick for now.

Interesting photos. What part of rhe photos are in focus, are pretty good. Due to low resolving powers of the lens, poor anti-reflective coating and lousy processing, the image isn't as good as it can be. Even then, some parts of photo (centre mostly) are pretty detailed. If it were presented as a a 12.5-25MP image, it would look extremely detailed, sharp, and with extremely well controlled noise.

Don't understand this extreme emphasis on number of total pixels but complete negligence on number of binned pixels. They're making 200 megapixels which is completely unnecessary but then it's binned to 12.5 megapixels which is too low. Why did they go from 108 to 200mp but still stuck on this lowly 12.5mp?
Anything beyond quad bayer is unnecessary. Instead of making 3x3 or even 4x4 binning, just focus on increasing this 12mp figure to 18mp or 20mp
But then this sensor specially, they've put a 50mp mode with 1.28 microns 4x4 binning. This is the other extreme. 50mp is just too high of a resolution unless you're doing PureView oversampling and lossless zooming (which these manufacturers are too lazy to implement) and 1.28 microns is too low. Just produce quad bayer binned 18mp or 20mp final image sizes with effective pixels sizes over 2.5microns without these gimmicks.

Well, this sensor has the capabilities to 4x4 pixel binning into 12.5mp, so I think the picture will mostly be saved in 12.5mp.

Photos are saved as 50mpx? LOL! Can't wait to see grainy photos in full glory...

When watching this image 1:1 (=at 100%) on a 27" screen, there is an incredible amount of color bleeding with overall poor tonality and white balance.
                          Quite disappointing...

It is ghosting af. I hope the previews we will get of the non-compressed photos prove otherwise.
Maybe the one who took the photo was in a hurry, or imagine of the phone lacked OIS (or has a crappy one)
Just like the 108mp on the 11T Pro, it will be pixels gone to waste.

Without a decent lens more megapixels are going to waste.

I think with phones the processing is more important than hardware and Motorola is not very good at that. Prime example is Sony which gives best camera hardware but quick photos(which majority of photos are taken with phones) are lackluster, only with fiddling with settings(for each photo taken) the potential for hardware could be unlocked.

Also they give very bad software support(will it be 1 or 2 android updates and 2 or 3 years of security updates even for this flagship phone?)
