blue, 15 Jul 2022How long support would you expect to have? It's been 1... moreWindows 10 release date is 29 July 2015 and Windows 8 was 26 October 2012
There was windows 8.1 and then skip 9 for 10.
Also i dont remember you could update windows 7 to 8 as from 8 we could go to 8.1 and then 10 and actually even 11 if you have the hardware support
Also windows have never had some limit for updates like Android have 3 years or IOs have 5 years.

When they come out with windows 10 it was meant to be final with the numbering. Then they come out with 11 and now going for 12. Probably add some more limits so the people that have the 11 need to upgrade hardware again

AnonymousCRL, 15 Jul 2022Even MacOS updates aren't that long right?MacOS has the shortest support on desktop (contrast to phones and tablets) so it's not hard to top that.

AnonymousCRL, 15 Jul 2022Even MacOS updates aren't that long right?Certainly not.
And since Windows 10 was free for Windows 8 users (and even some Windows 7) as an upgrade, the real time support is even longer.

blue, 15 Jul 2022How long support would you expect to have? It's been 1... moreConsidering how long you get the latest Linux, and the fact that many systems delivered with XP can run 10, I would have liked to have that continued with 11. But as I said, the performance is more than enough to run Windows 11, and it would run (well) if I made through a method demonstrated on YouTube. Because of that, I find it unnecessary to restrict it to 7th gen (which can be the crappiest Celeron that may not run it too well btw)

I'd just be fine if Microsoft fixed elementary issues with Windows 11, like garbage Start menu whose half of surface is entire waste of space, useless taskbar that doesn't give you access to anything when you right click it (like Task manager which is now accessible only via Start menu right click for some reason to idiotic notification section which keeps on insisting to hide icons even though I friggin want to see them all (NVIDIA icon gets hidden on every driver update for some f**ked up reason, right click desktop context menu that now has another submenu to access things like 7-zip and down to really dumb issues like entirely broken and non functional StorageSense which hasn't cleared 6 months worth of deleted files even though it should have done that every 30 days and to my personal favorite, using Photos app to view folders with tons of photos causes Windows to flip out and just eat all the CPU cycles, literally turning your computer into a furnace for no logical reason. This one has been this broken since Windows 11 exists and it looks like it'll never ever get fixed. I had to use Sakura Photo Viewer instead or just good old IrfanView and then this dumb problem doesn't happen.
So, before Microsoft decides to release more of their broken crap, for the love of god, fix this broken mess first. I can't believe a multi-billion corporation like Microsoft has their primary product in such pi$$ poor state and it has been this way for months. It's insane.

cyber, 15 Jul 2022windows 7 was the last usable windows at all, windows 11 is ... moreI completely agree windows 7 besides not looking great for me was a great stable and fast OS, windows 11 has only but given me issues, Windows 10 was sort of OK same as 8, but behind the scenes is the same old windows with new skin....
I've been also using IOS and i'm starting to dislike pretty much all new releases from the different OS.

Jerry Nixon, a Microsoft development executive, said recently that Windows 10 would be the "last version" of the desktop software. Instead of new stand-alone versions, Windows 10 would be improved in regular installments, the firm said.
This did not aged well

Doesn’t matter to me as my extremely overkill Xeon from 2010 will still be on Windows 10. I thought you were better with support than Apple with Mac.
