Google Pixel 6a gets disassembled on video

23 July 2022
There's a very unwelcome surprise at the beginning.

Nice someone did this. If Google extends security updates to 5 years, like Pixel 6, then I'll likely need to change the battery. Good to know it's manageable.

Anonymous, 24 Jul 2022Can you provide examples of non-soldered charging ports on ... moreOn all iphones since at least iPhone 5,and all recent Samsung except S10, the charger port is on a sub board so you can just replace this part which costs less than $10. When the charger port is connected to main board this isn't possible so soldering is required which the average person cannot do

Anonymous, 24 Jul 2022Can you provide examples of non-soldered charging ports on ... moreThey are talking about how most phones - even iPhones - have their charging port on a second board, instead of having it on the motherboard.

The port is soldered in both cases; however, when it is on a second board, it is cheaper and easier to replace just that small board.

If however, the port is on the motherboard, unless you replace the port by micro-soldering, you need to replace your motherboard. In addition to being more difficult and not economically viable (motherboards cost a lot), it is also waste of an otherwise perfectly fine board.

tl;dr the clickbait "unwelcome surprise" is only that the unit in the video had scratches on the back.

Soldered charging port! This lot are worse than apple. So if you damage the charging port or it simply fails, you need a new motherboard or basically a new phone. Replacing a charging port isn't that difficult on most smartphones. It's doable. Desoldering and soldering part of a pc motherboard is very difficult and requires expensive soldering stations and a lot of skill especially on smaller pcb's from a phone rather than a PC.

First time I see a battery coming off that easily. When was the last time you saw a battery removal without isopropyl alcohol? It's pretty neat.
