I'm seeing a chinese sunset for smartphones looming up. Looking at the sales data (from actual stores, so in the larger picture things might be a little different) from indian brick and mortar stores, Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi had a bull run in the 2016-2020 era. 1+ was a little more niche, mostly a tech enthusiast phone.
But now there's apparently a massive drop in BBK and Xiaomi sales from brick and mortar stores. Could be everything from people having tougher finances here due to the pandemic and economic downturn or growing nationalism or maybe online sales are a little better. But if chinese phones start to lose steam in the 2nd largest market they deal in...then the writing is on the wall.
Customer Sentiment for this Oppo-1+ union is tepid at best, don't know which tech savvy person who used to purchase 1+ for Oxygen OS will pay for this Oppofied OS.

If the headphone jack isn't coming back, I don't see why they shouldn't go ahead and remove as much as possible in an attempt to reach a better phone; the power button has always been useless anyway.

They removed alert slider for 2mp macro cam.

Probably priced @699-799 max given the change, OnePlus is dead in Europe at least with these offering/price/software 😣

lol dead brand now fr. only unique feature now slowly being wiped off as oneplus just becomes oppo but with a different name. not holding my breath for 11 pro anymore

I don't think it matters since literally no one buys OnePlus phones anyway. They've massively reduced their staffing in Europe since they're a dead brand now

It's like every company is doing what they want without caring for what people want. Just like the excuses with headphone jack which are lies.
And yes you can have an IP rated phone or even waterproof with a headphone jack

Same old excuse as the article explains.
Its obviously a lie, the slider was removed because is easier to design a generic phone than to add a specific feature. Streamline the production of the phones.

There is only one reason of alert slider removal: OnePlus is dead. OPPO is doing with OnePlus exactly the same thing Microsoft has done to Nokia after acquisition: just slowly but surely killing it. Liu's "justifications" of slider removal is a BS. Just like "ecological" justifications from Apple or Samsung regarding removal of charger from box.

OnePlus explains it clearly: we're now a oneminus company. Pay us, get less, andbe happy with it.

They went down hill after the OP7 Pro...I have not bought anything from Oneplus since then...

I dont get it. Years before, oneplus was a company who listend to their community. But these days?
I understand that u want to safe money an merge some parts with oppo or realme or other parts of bbk.
But all of the community are complaining about oneplus feels to much like oopo or any other phone on the market.
Starting with the software, downgrading the flagship, and then removing the most iconic psrt about oneplus hardware.. the alert slider.
It looks like bbk want people to switch away from oneplus (to get a oppo?).
I think the time was right for nothing to launch their phone, i think a lot of oneplus fans switch to nothing because of carl pei.
                                Sad to see oneplus fall.
Maybe it would have been better to push oneplus in the western market and leave oppo for the asian market.

Exactly the same reason for headphone jack removal: to enlarge battery/achieve higher changing speed. I prefer all the goodies and I'll pick the headphone jack, the alert slider (in case of OnePlus) and the microsd slot over 10% bigger battery or 150W charging speed any day of week. Speaking of charging speed, IMHO 65W is more than enough. You can even charge a laptop at that speed, but that is only my opinion.

Did they need the extra space on all of the Nord models they removed the slider from? They didn't have 150W charging. I imagine next year's Pro model will ditch it, so the slider will be extinct. It's not just the removal of an iconic feature that will rub users up the wrong way; it's the blatant lying about it.

They have gone from competitive flagship killer to standard expensive phone that does not really stand out anymore. Also letting oxygenos go was a step back. I guess only positive thing is that they support custom roms or do they anymore? Anyway, they have gone out of my phone price range. You can get more interesting options for less than half the money.
