Huawei Mate Xs 2 in for review

I don't care what people say, this Huawei phone, this form-factor, is much much better than the weird 3-screen Samsung Fold out there.
I want the screen to fold-out, not to fold-in. When it folds-in, the angle is too narrow, crease is sharp, and there's too much pressure on the screen. On the outside, the diameter is much larger so you don't get creases. In fact, I made a concept of this device back in 2011.
The issue for Huawei is to somehow get this device, with a GLASS substrate which will bend at that 360' hinge without snapping. I think Corning has a product for it, but none of the OEMs are willing to buy it. If I am paying LUXURY prices for a device, we're talking not USD$500 but more like USD$1,500... then I want the experience that comes with it. A Plastic Film feels smudgey (or glossy) under the fingers, and not smooth (or "cold") as all the other devices. And the picking up of small scratches is unacceptable at this price, not unless Huawei agrees to give me a new phone every 6 months or so.

Huawei set out to do something different and there are aspects of this phone I like, but outer foldables are not ready for mainstream. I wouldn't feel comfortable putting this in my pocket and it has no water resistance.
It's been over 2 years since the Mate Xs and no one can speak to the durability of these devices because people are not buying them. A few reviewers like Ben gets them temporarily for reviews but nobody keeps them as their daily driver.

NickValok, 31 Jul 2022The phone that folds in the opposite direction may look pre... moreYou make a point about wider curvature creating wider wrinkles as if it's bad. But wider curvature is better for curved displays, no? Lesser stress on the display, and hence lesser wrinkles. If the curvature is spread out, the wrinkles are formed lesser and are also less noticeable compared to the sharp ones that get formed by displays that fold inwards.

If Samsung made something like this and it's actually a foldable I would consider. All the existing form factors just don't work for me. Maybe a rollable someday...

The phone that folds in the opposite direction may look prettier on the outside, but who protects the other screen? What are you going to do with the wider wrinkles that the wider curvature creates?
There's a reason why other companies don't make folding phones that way

Huawei makes some great phones. This looks good, and had many great design ideas, but the outward folding idea is not one of them.
