Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra rumored to keep the old 10MP 10x periscope module

26 July 2022
There could be different optics and a new sensor, but the module won't be too far off the S21 Ultra and S22 Ultra periscopes, according to an unconfirmed report.

Anonymous, 26 Jul 2022S22U does not have zoom. Of course it has zoom. Stop with the semantics. If professional reviewers call it "zoom", why shouldn't I?

Would have liked to see 12MP camera modules for the zoom, this time, but, if Samsung improves the quality even further, via other ways, then the 10MP should also seem fine.

T, 26 Jul 2022Samsung provides the best zoom in smartphones and you want ... moreThis is basically the reason. Almost nobody else is competing with them on the periscope front. So they have little incentive to improve this lens, at least until someone with a decent flagship comes around threatening it with their own 10x lens.

That's a bit silly "discrimination". Not to mention Exynos models weren't magically cheaper as a result. They cost the same as Snapdragon ones with VAT slapped on top to really seal the deal.

This industry doesn't even have to make an effort to lie about reasons to increase prices by 3-400%. " Some mining farm in Iran managed to hoard all the GPUs worth tens of billions of dollars". Because everybody knows how rich Iranians are.

well Samsung, there's an end for innovation. Especially if the device has small size/space.
But still better than iPhone, following every old feature that 2020s Android phones already have.

SShock, 26 Jul 2022Any info if Samsung is really going to only use Snapdragon ... moreI doubt.

Let's suppose than Samsung sells 25 million S series.
Now let's suppose 7 million devices are exynos variant.
Let's pretend Samsung Electronics pays $100/ exynos 2200 (I do not know price, zero idea).

If this math was the real scene, then Samsung Semicon would lose $700million.
That is huge money I doubt Samsung is willing to give up on.

Why not at least bump it to a 12 mp unit?
The 10 mp ones they use are upscaling the files to 12 mp resolution, which inevitably leads to some picture quality deterioration.

Any info if Samsung is really going to only use Snapdragon chipsets for Galaxy S23 models even in Europe? I'd kind alike to get myself Galaxy S23 (might even do something silly like getting the Ultra) if it had Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 inside...

Samsung few years ago had the best APSC camera of its time.
Still refuse to take advantage of this knowledge for their phones.
Also, needs zoom lens. There are ppl there that know how to make one.
                                    Even Asus was able.
