Anonymous, 18 Jul 2008I'm confused. I am one of the first ones to buy this hands... moreThere are still some areas where GSM 850 is active in North America. Much of the populated areas in the populated United States are still using this older band. While most GSM has been upped to 900, the 850 is still being used by carriers like ATT Wireless. This helps unlock more range for the Diamond and should improve signal strength but it wont unlock the 3g network

Anonymous, 18 Jul 2008I'm confused. I am one of the first ones to buy this hands... moreThe GSM 850MHz is the other frequency that GSM phones run on in US and Canada. Some areas are cover by GSM 850 only. So if you're able to use GSM 850, that means your phone can be used in more areas.

Adding 850MHZ to the 1900MHZ band should improve your overall reception.

I have total internet through Tmobil, so I only send pictures through email, that way I don't have to pay extra for picture messaging. Pictures from the Diamond are not great, so it's not a big deal for me. I use this phone mainly to make calls, text messaging, mp3 and internet. My main issue with this phone is its sluggishness and sometimes unresponsive/delayed responsiveness of its touch UI. Unfortunately for me, I am not a mobile tech savvy developer who can figure out what needs to be tweaked to improve its performance, and though developers provide upgrades, I am still having a hard time understanding terms and the process of the upgrade. I wish they can just send a live update to the phone directly, or have stores who could provide upgrade services. That way developers can get paid appropriately for their efforts.

I am one of the first ones to buy this hands... moreYour carrier's frequency band is probably supported on the Touch Diamond but buying the North American version may have been better because some features such as picture text messaging may not work on your phone.

I'm confused. I am one of the first ones to buy this handset, and I live in the US, which is part of North America, and my phone does work. So what does that GSM 850Mhz do? And do they mean with North American version still pending? Then how come I'm able to use mine just fine?
I wish someone would explain what "radio" is. For me, a radio is an electronic device that could pick up AM/FM frequencies. I didn't know that it has another meaning in mobile phones. What is a "hard-spl"? How do I know if my Touch Diamond has that? What is an RUU? Where do I get that? Gosh, these developers just blurt out terms like they're every day words in the general public's converstaions, lol. I don't even know what the benefits are after this upgrade. It's mentioned that it will improve battery life and signal strength, but what I'm hoping for is an upgrage that would improve the device's responsiveness and erratic performance/behavior. Will GSM provide a glossary of terms or something for their not too savvy readers?

I think they disabled 850MHz because some North American carriers would'nt want that device to be in this continent.
