Fu×#ing indian government. They are growing corporate like jio and adani groups because already jio phone is a flop in india and now tsmc is planning to start a semi conductor industry in India. Already india government released a new UI. And the 5g spectrum also bought by jio for 1.5. Billion. So only chinese market is releasing phones under 150$ . if they are banning chinese phones indian corporates collabing with indian govt can release phones and capture the entire low budget phone market. Now india govt already banning chinese apps and games. Fu××ing indian govt.

Anonymous, 09 Aug 2022Really old but really horrible. I hated my Micromax phone. ... moreI know they are old but not very good, that's why it is pointless to "give them another chance".. don't get me wrong I don't want them to completely fail, but banning their competitors is not right just to make them shine. On the other hand I'm probably the only one that used One UI and doesn't like it, looks too childish to me and is buggy, I prefer stock android or something like Origin OS which is one of the furthest away from stock. My main phone is an iQOO 5 Pro and my secondary is a Moto One Zoom so I'm using my 2 preferred OS right now.

Yext, 09 Aug 2022First time? Both Lava and Micromax are really old manufacturers.Really old but really horrible. I hated my Micromax phone. Was slower than a turtle. Xiaomi and Realme are miles better. But Samsung is the best of best now. Forget about laggy TouchWiz. One UI is fast.

Ridiculous.
Even a normal consumer in the cheapest of segments in the smallest of towns knows to prefer a Tecno, let alone Redmi or realme or Samsung, over a Lava or Micromax.
They ruined themselves years ago. Maybe the 2020 revival would've done things right, but instead it's all false promises.
Micromax budget phones released in November 2020 and even in 2021 don't even have Android 11 right now. Barely 3 months ago, they went ahead and rebranded a phone from a obscure brand (don't remember which and I remember reading back then) as the IN 2B.
First they came, then they marketed their phone by blaming China for everything, then fail to deliver on software update promises and our government supports these lying assholes?
I'd rather buy a used phone than cave in to these chumps selling crap in the name of anti-China bullshit.
It's basically like an exam you haven't studied for, you know you will fail, and the teacher responds by removing all other students who are giving it, and even then you know you'll fail.
India is a country where 97-98% of people save money for years and then go ahead to buy a new phone, and usually in the exact same sub-$150 bracket! Imagine them using their current brand, being happy with them and then forced to buy something worse than they had...even Samsung is absurd in that segment. I don't find any of their options appealing.
PS: As for giving them "one more chance", we've seen that shit since 2013, when they could've pushed to compete with the new entrants back then! Then after vanishing into thin air, they did a second come back in 2018, then 2020 (when they did initially have the potential to do great).
They've already been given 3 chances!

The Indian government has gone crazy once again. Does it make sense to ban Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo to allow Lava, Micromax? Absolutely NOT. Lava, Micromax NEVER got us phones as good as the ones from the branded Chinese makers. If they would, they could do much better. So, while this decision may sound patriotic or something, it smells nonsense.

Very good idea. But no one will miss those devices and everyone will just buy slightly more expensive phones.
India, I'm not sure this is the right idea. It's the definition of reserving the worst for yourself.

Anonymous, 09 Aug 2022The "local" "manufacturers" doesn'... moreTrue. In this price bracket almost all phones are not designed or manufactured by the brands themselves. Whether it's an Indian brand or Chinese brand, phones in the budget segment are nearly all ODM

AnonD-1060663, 09 Aug 2022What you think it does not matter to us. We only know that ... moreY'all gave them multiple Chances and they failed every time, for mainly two reasons(even though there are lots of other reasons why),shit value for money and no set in stone update policy, and now the government is pathetically trying to advertise "made in India" by banning Chinese phones in the sub $150 range, pathetic and anti consumer,I hope they will not go though with it.

Even with dozens of opportunities Lava and Micromax failed to capture Indian market. Ever since their inception, I've never seen them put effort into making a phone which would please the customers.
This decision won't help grow the Indian players... But might become a gold mine for brands like Samsung and Nokia instead.
They'll be more than happy to provide a sub standard phone under this price range.

as a recent past people are considering used phones for 150 dollars is very large amount of money to buy a used Chinese phone the would give you more than the Indian made once that are really if we go by the most recent cheap Indian phones very similar to flagships from even before 2014.

This looks to be a bit of a stretch
Let's wait for the official statement from government.
Will make sense if companies are required to manufacture 100% component locally.
Even the so called local players, only lava has shown some honest effort, but service support is always the reason why I keep going back to Samsung.
Sad that LG walked out (the LG w series were a good option) while nokia is stuck in the cycle of mediocrity.

Why should the general consumers be affected by the battle of these corporate capitalists, let alone be affected the most? The consumers should not be carrying the burden of owning inferior and lower-class products just for the sake of giving advantage to others, even if they are for the country's pride.
If those local players in India want to regain a large portion of market share for budget smartphones, then they have to do it the right way without needing unfair advantages over their major competitors. It's giving the consumers the "pick me" vibe and is a clear statement "our local smartphone brands are not as good as the Chinese offerings, so we are banning them to force everyone to purchase those from our local brands instead, even if it means having to settle with far worse sub-$150 products."
This is just my personal take, and I'd definitely do the same if such a thing would ever happen in my own country as well. If I were to be that local player/brand, I'd be ashamed of it and wouldn't even dare say it is a morally fair journey to success.
"How did your business grow so much in just a short period of time? Because our national government removed our major competitors out of contest in our own country, and people had no other choice but to settle with ours."

this is the correct move, only if lava and micromax could match the specifications that indian market needs, alternatively, government can come with a rule that out of bbk group, only one brand can operate in india (since majority of them are rebranded from their own group)
