Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 unveiled with better cameras, refined design

10 August 2022
The aspect ratios are now more manageable, but the phone itself is less bulky than its predecessor. It is powered by the SD 8+ Gen 1 and charging is faster.

This comment section is an absolute mess.
Which is what I excpected, honestly.
Time to add my opinion to the pile.

I don't think this is bad and that simple updates are okay, but I feel like they could've also done a bit more.

Yes, this is essentially a Fold3 with new colors, new chipset, new cameras and a few other things. That ain't a massively bad thing however. Adding a few things onto what you already have is an alright approach, and I feel like people who have foldables aren't really looking to upgrade each and every year, especially with the prices being quite high because this is still somewhat new stuff. Almost 4 year old stuff, but you get what I mean.

However, with Samsung having made quite a fair amount of changes with each generation of Fold, I do think they could've done more, too. Borrowing some specs from the S22 Ultra would've been a good idea at least in my eyes, and would make the $1,800 starting price tag make more sense. But because Samsung made minor changes this year, that price tag is looking a bit funny, especially comparing to competitors, like Xiaomi's Mix Fold 2 being $1,380 and arguably having better specs in a few places. If Samsung made the Fold4 cheaper - say, starting at >$1,600 - then this honestly wouldn't be that bad.

Maybe at some point, I'll change my opinion, as I did a long time ago about phone cameras as a replacement for a standalone camera, but nothing I see is compelling enough for me at this point.

blue, 11 Aug 2022New displays and change of dimensions not seen? Improved ch... moreThese are not improvements. They are just minor tweaks. Nothing that warrants the high price tag. Samsung is super lazy and are doing nothing to change and innovate the phone. The only "improvements" this year is the camera but thats only on paper. The image quality won't be any different than on the Fold 3. So basically this is just a Fold 3 in new colors. Nothing more than that.

And if you can't see all the improvements between iPhone generations, too bad for you. I guess it's just a lot of blind hatred, just like the others here.

Samsung should position the Fold4 as the Nokia E90 Communicator reborn. It is great for work and business. And for photo editing and other creative work too. And it should, with google, optimise apps for creativity and productivity.

One device that's far too big and heavy to be really useful with an ugly crease and flawed hinge, the other one with a gimped outer display that forces you to use it opened for anything important and poor cameras - both with plastic displays at a premium price.
If foldables are the future, I'll pass thanks.

Pedz, 10 Aug 2022It’s basically the same az fold3, im disappointed. It's the same with the iPhones every year. Same S**T, different name pretty much. But the thing is that those iPhone users are totally fine with it. So it's not a problem for the Z Fold 4 either.

I really hope they improve folding hw before camera hw so camera hw have more space, but no competition is making it impossible. Apple, Sony nothing, the rest is banned.
Flagships are boring, but its great time for mid range tho.

After being the pioneer of foldable phones to the masses, Samsung has lost its steam. this is like the Galaxy Fold 3.5. there is literally no substantial upgrade that could warrant this sequel, nothing at all. better camera? much better if the camera array of the S22 Ultra was present including the periscope zoom not a meager 3x telephoto. battery efficiency? still 4400 mAh. productivity? it only added a taskbar which can be added via software update to older models. and all this w/an even higher price
it would have been a lot better if this is like the Vivo X Fold. wider aspect ratio, much better cameras, beatiful and unique design, barely any crease, a fast charger IN THE BOX, and a considerable price of $1500 direct conversion
lastly, until OEMs invent a material that's nearly as tough as glass but bend like plastic then, these foldables will remain stale

Anonymous, 10 Aug 2022Zenfone 9 has screen with less than half size of this phone. ZenFone 9, even with being considered a compact flagship still has a wider and taller aspect ratio when watching video content. This form factor is useless for most tasks bar multitasking with a split screen. Even with that taken into consideration LG had a much better solution in a semi candybar format with the Wing. Foldables in themselves are the gimmick here.

maybe if Fold 4 has S Pen integrated in the body instead of needing case, I'd seriously consider it, as my workflow highly needs portability but still capable workstation to boot.

as a civil engineer, a powerful, phablet-like but has portability like Fold 4 would help me easily read documents and project designs on-site. it's not uncommon for me already to open Excel, PDFs, or CAD drawings on-site or spontaneous meeting where I couldn't grab my laptop fast. huge screen really helps a lot when you showing your colleagues some drawing.

but since it doesn't has built-in place for S-Pen, I'll just save my money for next year or even later. I'm a patient man, I could wait another year or two as my Xr, which I currently love-hate it are still holding up.
