Nothing Phone (1)'s screen isn't as bright as initially advertised, but could get there in the future

A bit of controversy surrounded Nothing today.

Which is bad, considering when they advertised it, they made it look like an actual usable feature of the phone, not like a theoretical one. So it is false advertisement and they hoped they wouldn't get caught.. but they got. And now they pull back by saying things about how much they care about "customer feedback". Apparently Pei learnt nothing (pun intended) from his experience with OnePlus, same old marketing stunts.. and lies.

More companies should get bashed for false advertising too.

How can you defend lies? Lol.

Other smartphones can reach 1000/1200 peak in certain HDR content like they advertised. Here nothing phone couldn't.

1200 vs 700 nits is a huge difference, and you are comparing with cash, great try being a b00tlicker but can't hide the fact Nothing phones are nothing, just inferior phones. With the display quality issues...

tesla advertised plaid (10 months ago) can go upto 200mph. but,it could only go upto 160mph right out the factory. a software upgrade bumped it up to 165mph and this is still the max it goes. this is tesla's flagship product :) nothing brand released a midranger product and this spec fits within it's segment average and clearly visible outdoors. so,there is no reason to complain.

Meizu even has higher brand value than this.

So, none of phones achieve that rate in regular use outside HDR content yet only Nothing phone is being roasted for it… hm?

Lol, that’s because peak brightness is achieved only on very small portion of the display (maybe 1-2%). Also, only in special test controlled scenarios.
I had some arguments in the past here on arena, with some not so intelligent people, when I was telling them the screen of Poco F3 is not as bright outdoors as the screen of an iPhone 12 for example. And they told me I was lying, because Poco F3 has peak brightness of 1300 nits or something like that. And that they believe what the company says, instead of some random guy on internet. But, I was having both phones in my hand at that time. So yeah, lol.

So, in conclusion, never trust what this companies says about brightness top levels. Especially Chinese companies. In 99% of the cases is not true, and those peak brightness levels have been achieved only on special test scenarios and only on very small percentage of the display.
Like an advice, the best displays on the market are on Samsung flagship phones and on iPhones. Period. And if you don’t trust me, buy them yourselves, compared them with any other phone you like and then we talk.

Nothing phone is not special ! garbage

Not so different from how another company used to push software updates that limit the processing power of their older phones without telling their consumers to preserve the phones' battery life then when called out for it, they rolled out an update that gave their consumers the option to decide for themselves.

Can't say I feel sorry for those who got this phone over any other in the competition, especially those who preordered before any review came out, but I do hope they eventually get a similar control over their phone in future updates.

is this a big problem? it is not a Pixel right.
