The real irony is that it is being said by somebody who’s based their identity on this site around a Samsung foldable, one of the most exclusive and expensive smartphones on the market.

in before Samsung adds advertisements back into their stock apps with no explanation

Anonymous, 15 Aug 2022Android is a open source OSOnly Android AOSP is open source. 3/4 of stuff that's installed on actual phones is NOT open source. Hell, even stuff on Pixel phones is far from open source and they are as close to AOSP as one can get. And even in case of Google apps that are open source, the service behind them isn't. Then again 3/4 of people here on GSMArena have no clue what's Android AOSP and what being open source actually means. For them everything is this magical uniform "Android" and if it's Android, surely it's all open source as well. Their logic, my observation.

Let me get this straight a sec, those who say that Google apps, from a company who’s primary business model is the harvesting of personal data to sell to advertisers, having ads in them are wrong? 🤔🤣🤦‍♂️

What clown world are you living on dude?

DaFink, 15 Aug 2022I love how Gurman comes out with yet another ‘rumour’, some... moreIn android, ads can be removed with adblockers and even root.
            Not so much in iOS.
            That's the difference.

I love how Gurman comes out with yet another ‘rumour’, something he is quite fond of doing (almost as if his livelihood depends on it or something 🤔) and suddenly the comments section is bristling with diatribes from users who by and large can’t stand Apple stuff any way, ads or not 🤷‍♂️

This is just a rumour people, and even if true it’s nothing that isn’t done on the regular on Android.

And before you all go flying off the handle accusing me of fanboyism, no I will not be happy if this turns out to be the true. Getting tired of navigating around ever increasing ads is part of the reason I wanted to move away from Android in the first place.

As this is just a rumour though, and considering the source, I think I’ll adopt a wait and see attitude.

Getting ahead of the revenue loss to usb c cables. 😉

I thought ads would just be on cheap-mid range priced phones, but i guess on premium over priced devices too. Its sad that people still defend brands/companies when consumers are just money trees for them. Not pointing to any specific brand it just happenstance that i saw this post.

Fireview, 15 Aug 2022I haven't seen ads on Android phones in years. Almost ... moreNot even a few hours, but probably like 10 mins if you get a new phone. Just transfer everything over via clone phone or some other built in data transfer option (does all apps too).

Also didn't realise apple were this greedy with advertising... Oh wait sorry I did seeming they are plastered everywhere with advertising campaigns and every major retailer only want to mention Samsung or them for phones, didn't realise their built in eco system was that bad for adverts though for £1000 phones (and iPhone users like to rip in to Chinese phones... Your phone is made in China, or India, or some other ASIAN country). Hmmmmm

Apple fan here. Still the best among the rest. Especially if you collect all apple devices. Ecosystem woks as expected. No more switches.

(I don't know about Xiaomi flagships specifically but most of the Android flagships don't show ads, the most they do is give bloatwares that hardly takes 2 mins. to remove.)
