Tim Cook would rather convert Android users to iPhones than adopt RCS

Anonymous, 09 Sep 2022Not everyone can afford $1200 dude. no one force you to choose $1200, the end of the day, it's just for calling and texting, browsing, emailing and stuffs... you need fancy $1000+ in your pocket for what?

You're really weird. If Apple supports RCS, it will benefit you if you're an Apple user. Or if you have no interest in chatting with an Android user, it won't affect you. It won't negatively affect you in any way. There is no reason to oppose it. The reason that Tim Cook opposes it is that he wants people to buy Apple phones. It seems that you don't even understand this simple fact even though he made it so clear.

I love it when Tim Cook herds the goats.

Would stop using a phone than being an iPhone user... Lol

I'm definitely all for replacing the aging SMS and slowly implemented MMS, but until Google can get the carriers to play ball to using a single standard implementation AND allow 3rd party apps to use RCS in Android, I don't think Apple will want to join the sh!tshow state it's currently in just to fix what Google can't.

I literally laid out as to WHY they don't want to. In layman terms so you can understand it better - it's business and other factors of RCS. If that doesn't make any sense to you, then brush up your reading comprehension. You somehow went all personal and compared me to Tim Cook lol, but whatever. I expect nothing more in this site anyways.

SShock, 09 Sep 2022So, you're b!tching over Apple's lack of headphon... moreI'm willfully ignoring 95% of other flagship phones (5% is Asus, Sony and others) because the majority of known Android phone makers follows Apple as their gold standard unfortunately. If Apple removes the jack, the rest follows. So, if Apple brings back the jack, the rest follows. If Apple brings back FM Radio on top of adding Satellite Radio (Sirius XM), everyone follows so that's the magic of Apple but the owners are not so good for us, people.

Anyways, Apple would be that dumb to not follow a world standard. RCS and USB-C is king. Speaking of USB-C, if they can't increase the spec of Lightning then USB-C will. Flagship phones can do USB 3 and 4 while Apple only does USB 2 and people nowadays like to go fast.

bluedragon1eye, 09 Sep 2022Everyone has the right to choose whatever product they want... moreExactly. Other than US, most of the world does that. Iphone hardly has anything innovative anymore. The way of not adopting RCS, not wanting to adopt USB C, are mostly trying to retain customers not through by giving them something innovative and groundbreaking but by exploiting existing status quo wherever it is.
If they had any confidence in iphones providing something unique enough to retain customers, adopting RCS would not have been an issue. But they know unless they do this, there is a risk that very few people would use iphones. Android is by no means perfect, but whatever percentage customers android lose it is for reasons not imposed by a company.
Some guy/gal also mentioned a true friend will use whatever platform you are using, indicating that people with androids should use sms or facebook messenger, in order to justify why heor she would not use whatsapp to message them. Unfortunately he or she can not apply the same standard to self. Apple's arrogance is arrogance. Not justified, nor it needs to be justified. We have no reason to suck up to apple or google or any corporation for that matter.

This are the kinds of statement that make me wish we had a third OS out there. Something else other than iOS and Android.

Just use SMS, it’s probably more secure than RCS- which google says is end to end encrypted but will be used by ad algorithms just like whatsapp’s end to end encryption. Sure no-one’s reading messages but they pass through ad- algorthims and thats a big no-no
So google can cry all they want.
There are better alternatives to RCS, just use Element or Session.
But iMessage, please let it be what it is - Perfect and free from google’s ad sharks.
                              Thank you Tim.

Like almost everyone else, I have SMS/MMS by default. So RCS which is also the sequel (Sony Xperia 1 IV). I understand Apple's position for imessages but too arrogant. In addition I have to use Facebook Messenger because I have Facebook and it is mandatory to read private messages. That's already 2 systems + E-Mail for long text. I don't want to put WhatsApp for some friends, Line for others etc etc. A true friend will use whatever system you have basic (at worst). So yes the RCS is good (need a bridge with imessages?) Other Solution: There are some Facebook announced compatibility between WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and Instagram coming soon. The European community has even forced this (at least for the basics) for 2023. So I hope at least for this compatibility, since Apple is too haughty.

They want to eliminate the competition, "convert them" if you will, not coexist with anyone else. At the end of the day Google gets an historic fine, Apple gets a pat in the back -- Euroland at its best.
