SuuperBaka, 26 Sep 2022Right, so there's nothing new and it's just a reb... moreWell it is new, just intentionally designed to target a lower price segment. A rebrand is typically the exact same product made to appear as new by changing its appearance.

I'm happy my clarifications were of use to you because you previously suggested I lacked a brain to make such clarifications but lets put that behind us.

Your question of, "what's the difference here? Can someone explain?" had enough clarity. You just refused to take my response I provided to it into consideration. Hopefully this interaction will allow you to
1) Read with higher focus to avoid unnecessary questions.
2) Avoid being unnecessarily rude.
3) Hopefully navigate a similar encounter in the future in a better way.

veryangrynerd, 23 Sep 2022If it was a rebranded 2020 model they would not mention it ... moreRight, so there's nothing new and it's just a rebranded lower-tier version of what I got. Thanks for the clarification 👍. Looking back I probably should've clarified my question, that was my mistake.

The only thing it has over mine is that it supports AV1.

veryangrynerd, 23 Sep 2022If it was a rebranded 2020 model they would not mention it ... moreYou actually cared to explain what's already in the article to him. He only needed to improve on his reading comprehension rather than suggesting that someone doesn't use his brain.

SuuperBaka, 23 Sep 2022Maybe you should use your brain before you comment. Why wou... moreIf it was a rebranded 2020 model they would not mention it replacing the 2018 model.

"This replaces the basic Chromecast from 2018 that launched at $35 and was much less capable (it lacked the Google TV part)."
Translation: This is Chromecast with 'Google TV' at a similar price to Chromecast non Google TV from 2018.

"We should note that while this device has “HD” in its name, it actually outputs 1080p. Sure, that’s less resolution the 4K model offers – that one is $50"
Things to infer: it suggests there exists a 4K model of the Chromecast with Google TV. Because it has Google TV you must need a remote to navigate it.And because this one is $50 it cannot be the same as the $35 one launched in 2018.

As I said again if you actually read the article you would know what you have is the 4K version of this new dongle.

Why would I mention that I got a Chromecast with a remote 2 years ago when the article mentions the 2018 Chromecast? I'm clearly not referring to that, but a similar product to the one that just came out.

This is supposedly a new 2022 product I already got in 2020. I asked if this has anything new over that one or if it's the same product just rebranded into a 2022 version.

I'm confused about if this is a new version of what I already got or if it's the same thing just rebranded.

I got a Chromecast with a remote like 2 years ago, what's the difference here? Can someone explain?

Not sure whether it is worth buying just for AV1 codec support, but $30 isn't that much.

So glad casting is still available in 2022. Every time I visit family and have to use a remote to navigate any UI it's terrible. I'm 10x faster browsing shows and picking something on my phone. I'm even still using the 2013 version with my 1080p Sharp TV and it looks better than some 4K tvs I've seen.

4k model is overpiced in europe.

Got nokia 8000 streaming box for the same price and it has usb port and much better controller.

I have a Chromecast Pro and they could have port Android TV to it ...

Well, if you want to get real technical, HD is defined as 1280*720, FHD as 1920*1080, and UHD or 4K as 3840*2160. At 16*9 anyways, doesn't really apply to phones.

Hopefully it'll be cheap outside us
