"When upsized to 8MP, the HTC One amazingly holds its own and resolves almost the same level of detail as the iPhone 5 in the low light studio shot"
I like your definition of ALMOST. I dont think it was that close, just much closer than the other photos, where the Htc One is a total fail. It sure gonna lose to all other flagships, and even if it had better cam then it still has too small display. HTC should make the Butterfly more available for those who want a traditional cam with ok resolution and ok design.
Small display, ugly, bad cam, tasteless UI, nothing is right with this phone.

Im surprised to say this, but overall i think htc one is winner, i have never seen good camera from htc before this. Htc one takes very natural looking pics.
I dont understand why people say it isnt good, its not easy to produce natural lookin colours, htc is doing that very well almost every shot what iv seen has looked natural, or who remember super green grass or super blue sky :D etc.
So i would say well done htc, this is going to be very competitive phonecamera when released.

Clearly the camera from HTC One is the winner. Picture look more details while iPhone camera is little over exposure.
